Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I learned something interesting today.

Everyone knows that I try to keep up with what is going on with IT/CS stuff. However, as soon as people realize that I play keyboard and also try to keep current with metal [1] bands, I get a lot more respect than before people knew that.

[1]: Metal is a very wide genre. From symphonic metal, to rap with heavy guitars, to some guy grunting monkey-like on a microphone shouting "SATAN", and proud that his band logo has more upside down crosses than anyone else's. This is one of the genres that has to keep renewing itself because it has been through multiple dead periods, especially the mid 90s due to grunge. This is also a genre that people have to distinguish themselves due to so much crap floating around.

Metal rules! I clean house while blasting Metallica. Work on cars to Scorpions. Interestingly enough, Apocalyptica playing Metallica is quite nice too!

Raises hand - old school metal guy here (old school as I have enjoyed it for decades, I like some of the new stuff too)...

While I don't play instruments I get the same look of "wow you aren't one dimensional" everytime I start discussing sports, music etc. Its amazing how people assume all geeks are JUST geeks haha

Not veiled enough apparently.

I admit it...I'm not a fan. Ever since Metallica ruined Napster, I lost all respect.

I used to listen to a lot of symphonic metal. Lately, I've been listening to mostly metalcore (As I Lay Dying), post-hardcore and some Scandinavian melodic death metal (In Flames).

I've also been listening to a fair amount of Miley Cyrus. I'm not sure what that's all about.
