Hi! Just thought I'd introduce myself and the situation with my next bike.
I'm a freshman at the University of Texas at Austin (ATX). I've had two bikes since I've been in college, a Jeep Comanche 2.0 MTN Bike and a GMC Sierra Denali Road Bike. I know, I'll probably get flamed for getting cheapie "department store" bikes, but they were $50 and $120 brand new, respectively. I wasn't going to argue with that price. Unfortunately, they have both been stolen from me in a one-year period. I guess the low price was good for me in the end after all. I would have hated to get a >$500 road bike stolen.
In any case, here's my current situation. I posted a Craigslist wanted listing, and so far I've gotten an offer for a 1993 Bridgestone RB-2 in "mint condition." The owner says "it's nearly NOS....It may have been ridden once or twice, but it still has original tires, bar tape, etc." I'm a total n00b at "real" road bikes. What does NOS mean? And what can you guys tell me about the RB-2 bike? I would love to be enlightened as much as possible on this bike before I buy it. I know it's steel frame, rides pretty nice, and limited to production of 1000 units, but that's about it. The owner is selling it to me at $300, so I'm wondering if it's a steal at that price already or if it's fair to bargain for a lower price.
Since my previous 2 bikes were stolen, I'm also going to get 2, maybe 3 locks. Are there any GPS/RF anti-theft tracking systems anyone would recommend? I've prowled all over the Net and only pulled up stuff that was $300 at least.
Btw if there is a n00b site where I can learn more stuff about what I'm getting into, I'd appreciate it if any of yall could point me in that direction.
Thanks in advance. I hope to learn a lot from you guys.
