Yep the big "Five O"
I've been night riding almost every night for 3 years now. It's been a great adventure with some really interesting experiences. I live San Jose Ca. which is a great place to ride day or night.
I'm new to the list and just wanted to say hello.

Welcome and happy birthday.
Just out of curiosity, is there a reason why you ride at night? Work schedule, for example? What kind of lights do you use?

Welcome!
Happy Fifty and welcome! I hope you find as much here as I have. This is a great place.
I lived in San Jose for 13 years. The only bike trail was the one from the Pruneyard to Los Gatos, sort of through Campbell. I used to do a loop through LG, Saratoga, and Cupertino. I think things have changed for the better since then.
Anyway, happy riding. Its all downhill from here... :o

Happy birthday and enjoy middle age.
Take an extra handful of fiber therapy caplets to celebrate the big day!

Thank you so much for the Well Wishes!! I forgot I started this thread….just kidding!
Turning 50 is not so bad…the kids took me out to dinner and it was great. This birthday makes you think about things in life, like I can’t wait to upgrade my bike.
Why I like riding at night?
Three years ago I pulled my dusty Miyata Valley Runner MTB out from the depths of the garage. I gave the bike a tune up and the timing was such that my first ride was at night.
I work during the day and it was easy to get a ride in on a consistence basis at night. The other thing is I really love LED lights. But I would have to say the night air makes me feel good and night riding adds a different kind of adventure for me.
You guys are great!
Cheers!

I have been in the bay area for about 20 years now. My kids go to Cupertino high and I live in Sunnyvale now. I like the Los Gatos trail plus the newer bike paths out by 237.
I did have a wreck on my bike about two months ago so my bike was in need of some repair. I didn't get hurt but it sure was a wild crash. I'll tell the story next time.

Thoroughly agree. There's a exhilarating air of freedom, freshness and peacefulness about riding at night, IMO. Not the time to be touring for the sake of the scenery, of course, but for travelling to somwhere relatively nearby along familiar roads and tracks, or just riding around town for the hell of it and enjoying the rather traffic free streets it can't be beat :D

Happy B-Day. Be sure to ride your age now. The ride will get longer and harder each year.

Hello,
I like these:

i also use cateye....for me required gear is a good helmet lamp. A bright helmet lamp has saved my butt a few times.

Rockytoprider: Indeed you are right sometimes it's easy to go a little to far. But for the most part I'm really careful about that.
