An old dog made a rookie mistake.

St. Michael and Christopher (http://myshavedlegs.blogspot.com/2007/03/lucky-charms.html) looked out for him.

That is all.

So what was the rookie mistake....inquiring old rookies want to know.

Number pinned on upside down?

Asked the officials what side the numbers go on?

Missed your start time?

Put on the warm-up oil before you put your shorts on?

Clipped a pedal?

Parked next to the port-a-john?

Asked "what was my time?" immediately after the un-timed race?

Forgot to take chocolate chip cookies to the announcer?

Stopped to pose for a "foto" at the start/finish line while riders still coming in?

Didn't take any TP in the Porta John after a healthy serving of bran flakes?

Didn't take any TP in the Porta John after a healthy serving of bran flakes?

On that note.

I was in the porta john taking the pre race dump right before the warmup at plainville today.

Suddenly I hear, "OH crap, dammit!!!" from the stall right next to me.

I figured the guy crapped his bibs or something. Never found out and didn't want to either.

Overlapped a wheel & taken out? Pulled a Boonen (or Zabel)? Violated the no abusive language rule? Forgot to take off your helmet mirror?

My vote: car keys went down the hole.

So that's why I never carry mine with me when I ride!

You pulled the pack around for 10 miles because you're so much stronger than them?

With the clues given I would say ...

was on the outside at the last corner before the sprint.

Riders going down slid into all paths.

Got lucky and didn't go down, but was in no position to contend for any $'s.

Holy crap. Sounds exactly my race at Plainville today (but without the money part...)

He'd better post something. Nobody else was there to document this?

Mollusk, we're not here to guess the RIGHT answer. We're here to imagine all the rookie mistakes that COULD be made, and then imagining Botto making them all.

How about getting a frame pump through the front wheel. That's a pretty rookie mistake ;)

OK.

How about botto decides to make last minute adjustment on bike. We know what happens next.

Got $hitfaced on malt liquor listening to Carlene Carter and Lorretta Lynn on the juke box the night before and overslept your race start? Wait, thats a veteran mistake, not a rookie mistake.

This is not what Botto did (I was there)...... But being a stage race dont you think it would be wise to finish that race so you can keep racing all weekend?

waved to a camera in turn #2? (with both hands)

forgotten cell phone, tucked away in jersey pocket, went off in the middle of your race? (rookie has latitude here (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=409531))

DrWJODonnell

Chased down a teammate who was up the road? Forgot where the finish line was? Forgot how many laps were left and raised your hands in victory on lap 4 of 5? Changed cables on your bike the night before the race? Put a warming cream on your legs before putting your contact lenses in? Fell over clipping in at the start line? Started with the wrong group?

I vote for missing start time.

It was an unremarkable display, but I did not commit any significant errors.

Forthcoming, detailed-ish, report to come.

Forgot your shoes?

Ha ha, I'm guessing you've done this or seen it done. Guy kept up for about 1/2 the crit. Was pretty impressive as it was a technical crit with a steep uphill section.

I have done this with tiger balm and cutting up a jalapeño.

Did you waste yourself the prior days? Not recovery well with adequate food, liquid, rest? With a stage race like you did and still continue, I wonder. Looking forward to the "detailed-ish" report.

Hey, go easy on the guy. It takes weeks, sometimes months, to purge that much PBR from somebody's system. It could be July before botto gets his happylegs back. At least by then he'll be settled in Andorra or somewhere, no longer a threat to the southeastern U.S.

:D

Prologue

Tuesday night, at the end of a group ride, I was asked if I raced. After confirming that I did, I proceeded to go into great detail about how I hadn’t raced since October, how I hadn’t been training enough, how I had let myself get far too fat, how I hadn’t yet renewed my license, etc, etc, etc. Excuses. All of them.

race report (in progress), continued here: here (http://myshavedlegs.blogspot.com/2008/04/sort-of-homecoming.html).

Has the good Dr. or Pcad read these? I guess they are less boring when you can watch your power output and feel like a TT'er.

as bikesnobnyc so aptly put it: Of course, the reality is that riding with a power meter is more like having sex with an electrocardiogram, in that it takes the fun out of the whole enterprise...

You don't seem to even hint at your TT mistake in your blog post. I'll guess you started out going too hard.
