Hey everyone.
One of the places I am considering for the summer is located near here (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=13778542840219005476,37.294425,-121.910884&q=Hamilton+Ave+%4037.294425,+-121.910884&jsv=107&sll=37.294181,-121.908352&sspn=0.006828,0.020084&ie=UTF8&ll=37.295735,-121.909618&spn=0.006828,0.020084&z=16&iwloc=addr)
Any route suggestions for training rides?

Thanks.

Yes there is, and yes it is.:p:p:p Fom my house I can get to the top of hwy 9 and bback home in under 2 hours. That is only 10 to 12 minutes from my house by bike. So that makes Stevens Creek Resevoir close by. I like to ride south down Santa Teresa to Baily Rd, R on Mckean and down Almaden. I take some back roads through some of the areas, I can always show you around a bit. You can also ride down the Los Gatos Creek Trail and catch Santa Cruz Hwy up to Summit and into the mountians. Great location with lots of options. As already mentioned the velodrome is not far, and the base of Mt Hamilton and Sierra Rd are within a 30 minute warm up ride.

Depends on what you are training for. A nice ride I have taken through that area goes down Monterey Avenue to Gilroy, then hwy 152 over Pacheco Pass to the I-5 and south to LA.

Kool, are there any places to do endurance intervals (10-12 minutes)?

You're just a couple of miles from Saratoga. There was another thread a couple of days ago about routes near Saratoga: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=407758

On the other side of San Jose, some nice roads are Metcalf, Sierra, and Mt. Hamilton.

Kool, will check that thread out. I think I will have couple hours to ride during the week so I am just looking for a route with minimum seating at stop lights.

Yep, Ive got a great place for that. 15 minutes out the door, rolling terrain that makes it easy to do high wattage intervals, no lights and courteous drivers to boot.;)

Can you post it here, or PM me? :)

I use all of these for longer intervals and SST rides. The latter 2 can easily be extended and even joined together very easily. The last is by far the flattest, the first 2 are rollers, great for 5 minute high power intervals.

I've had a number of cars or trucks pulling boats pass me too close on McKean. There's no shoulder. Not bad enough to keep me from riding there but enough to make me think about it. Santa Teresa has a nice wide shoulder. Go farther south on McKean and you can do the Uvas loop (McKean to Uvas to Watsonville rd to Oak Glen back to Uvas). You can hook that to Santa Teresa by going over Willow Springs.

Lots of good road rides nearby, also lots of mountain bike riding in the area. Check out Almaden Cycle Touring Club (http://www.actc.org/) for organized road rides, ROMP (http://www.romp.org/) or Mere Mortals (http://www.mere-mortals.org/) for MTB.
