Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - 26" wheel frame with horizontal dropouts, AND der hanger?

OK, so the utility bike I'm dreaming of building could be a lot of different things with a simple wheel change. I'm looking for a frame with the versatility to do it all.

It's gotta have:
1. Horizontal dropouts or track forks for fixed or internall geared hub
2. Canti Studs it's gonna be a heavy cargo bike, it needs good brakes
3. Should work well with 26" wheels and possibly 650b
4. derailer hanger in case I want to run a derailer

It would be nice if it also had:
1. A nice compliment of braze-ons for racks and fenders
2. Decent butted chromoly tubes


This bike will definitely get fenders, and a Cetma 5 rail.

Thinking about it a couple of things that would work well would be a Kogswell PR, or a nice older MTB with horizontal dropouts. Can anyone recommend any particular frames new or old that would meet these criteria?

Pretty hard to beat the P/R for this kind of application.

Thorn (http://www.thorncycles.co.uk/models.html) has some great looking 26" touring bikes but I'm pretty sure they have vertical dropouts.

Old MTB is probably the way to go if you want to save $ though.

No derailure hanger though. If you get really creative you can always get one with an adaptor.

I'm thinking my ideal would be a Bridgestone XO-1, but I think any Bridgestone XO or MB model would probably fit the bill

The really old MB-1s would be great for this too, those things had a wheelbase like a dump truck and were comfy as hell.

80s-90s mountain bike. My SS around-town ride is a late-80s Hardrock. I stupidly sawed off the derailleur hanger, but otherwise it matches your criteria. Fender-compatible and decent tubeset, too.

Don't you have to file out the dropouts on those? No big deal, but still worth mentioning.

Some of the models had a filled semi horiz dropout. Nothing a drill or dremel can't fix.

minus the canti bosses that sounds like my new custom (sorry).

Its a strange combination of things to ask for, and trust me the bike looks a little weird built up.

PS. you could only get that kind of wheel size versatility with disk brakes.

You described my early-90s Schwinn Mirada exactly, except it's 4130. I believe the Mesa Runners were built the same as well.
