General Cycling Discussion - Weather / Cycling in Tucson?

I have been asked to spend the first three weeks in Tucson training new M$ CSR's...

My answer will come when I know things:

How's the weather in Tucson AZ in Dec?
How's the cycling?
Any good LBS's that I can send my bike to for unpacking / tune up a few days before?

The weather will be great in December! It is just about perfect now. It was 45 degrees on my way in to work this morning, and should be about 70-75 degrees on the way home. December will be a little cooler, but not by much. The normal high for December is the high 60s I believe. I have ridden in January when it was 72, so it varies. Also, mostly clear skies, and the wind is pretty calm this time of year. Perfect for riding!

I would recommend "Fair Wheel Bicycles" to set up your bike. They have a couple of great mechanics.

Joe, you are sooo luckey!! to be able to go there during december!! that's really nice in my mind...I know that US Postal has done some training camps in that area in the winter months before so I would assume it's a good place to ride in the winter...Hope you have a good time and get some good riding in also!!

It was 80 today. El Tour De Tucson is tomorrow. LA rode last year, haven't heard anything this year. Starting temp will be about 57 at around 6 or 7 am.
December will hover around 75. The bikes come out in the late morn/afternoon in winter. (If you want to see a lot of bikes in the summer get out at 5am). There are several bike camps this time of year.
Full Cycle became Supergo and they are sponsoring this year and have expanded the store. You can get add/# from www.supergo.com It's closer to downtown.
Fair Wheel is good but is way on the east side I believe. Just another option

What about February, arond Valintine's Day? That's when I'm coming to Tucson. Don't knwo that I'll bring a bike. I'd have a difficult time deciding which one to haul with me. Getting out and doing some MTB, or hitting the roads on a fixie.

Fair Wheel is on the south side of the UA campus, not on the eastside of town. It's probably one of the closest shops to downtown...

Did you ride in El Tour on Saturday? I didn't (was out of town for 2 months for work with not enough to train). The wind really picked up from the west around 9:30 AM, I'm sure those that went hard early were glad they did so that they wouldn't be fighting the wind in their face come midmorning.

I may ride in El Tour next year, but I have ridden the route for free, why should I pay $75 for the provilege of having a number? :)

The weather will still be great in February. I would bring the mtb and ride local trails like Fantasy Island and the 50-yr Trail north of town. Starr Pass is alright, but real rocky.

You're right. I was thinking of the one on Tanque Verde, Sabino Cycles.
No I didn't ride this year. I tore my ACL playing soccer in September. I did take advantage of the El Tour sale and bought a Specialized AL Comp (Zebra stripe) for $1500 after taxes! woohoo Actually I bought it for my wife's b-day but I can ride it too. I only have to lower the seat 1 cm for my fit. .....Ya I said lower.
