I am going to buy a folding bike this week. I am the kind of person who likes to spend a little extra money to buy something well made and maintain it as long as possible. I am probably going to buy a Dahon bike. Is it likely that I will have trouble with parts for it after 5 years or so? I know the frames have 3 year guarantees. How long can I expect it to last? If things work out well I will be riding it every day (with a motor attached) for a total of 70 miles a week and transporting it via train, bus, etc a couple of times a month.

Not so easy. First you have to find a Dahon fork. They aren't sold as spare parts AFAIK. No other fork will do.

Why anyway?? I can't think of any advantage.

Brompton riders are keepers, luckily most parts for older models are kept in stock by Brompton! (I didn't need it till now and my bike is 6 years old now.)
But then you will have to buy a Brompton, maybe that's not what you wanted to do.
