I believe the ideal temperature for riding is 12 degrees C. Unfortunately, the temperature rarely drops to that around here (and never if you're not prepared to set off by 7am)

Chris L,

Where did you get the figure of 12 degrees C? For me, that feels pretty darn cold.

20 is good for me ;)

Yeah, 20 is considered "normal" during our "Winter". I think I like 12C because of the uniqueness of it (around here at least). It's about the only chance I get to put on those "cold weather" clothes that are normally sitting idle. I suppose if I lived in a cold part of the world where I had to rug up everyday I'd probably get sick of it.

I'm jealous. I have too much homework to go out riding.

12-15C is almost perfect for me. throw on a pair of shorts, a long sleeve shirt and a light vest and i'm good to go. 20C is good too, but i like the cooler weather cause i can go out riding without having to put too many layers on to keep warm.

7 to 15...much below that and it can become cumbersome. But I have ridden in colder and probably will again. Not much stops me but black ice and slushy snow.

eheheheh. i wish i could say the same. but my paper is a huge chunk of my grade. but believe me, i want to go outside right now and tear stuff up. knowing my luck though, i'd get broken up and not be able to finish my paper.

I have never found the temp to get to cold for riding. The coldest I have ridden in was 20f. A good pair of thermal tights, couple layers up top and a neoprene mask makes for a nice a cozy ride. Just need to be sure to warm up before heading out.

12*C = brrrrrr? I might start out a ride with a light windbreaker jacket but after the first 20 mins, I'm down to my regular riding shirt and shorts. I usually don't keep/need a jacket until closer to 40F/5C. I've ridden in temps well below freezing, and based on past experience skiing and running, would ride to probably about 15F/-10C for lung comfort.

Then again, I grew up in Maine....

Quite often the temps over here are 12 degrees C..... It stinks, but you have to get used to it... I do the same as skiahh... Light jacket to start off and by 10 mins in, Im more or less regulated, and all the jackets come off and im in T shirt and shorts....
