2 weeks after joining the 10-Mile Club, I decided it was time to join the 20-mile club today. Its been a tough week with being busy at work, having a nasty Sinus/Flu/Cold sickness for 3 days, and visiting my wife's dying grandmother the last 2 weekends.
In spite of all the obstacles, I found time between the rain to get on the bike and do some miles. It was harder than I thought, but easier than I thought as well. I wasn't out for speed today mostly just distance, and I was still able to avg over 10mph at 11.76mph. 20 miles at 1:42:03. I was very happy with myself.
The last 2.5 miles were the toughest as I still had 3 steep and curvy rolling hills to ride. I stopped at the 10-mile mark for a ten minute break and drank 2 bottles of water and ate a banana.
I'm just glad to be able to get out today and ride, but I did learn a valuable lesson. While I told my wife I was going for a ride, I didn't tell her that it would be longer than usual. Lately I've been riding 10-12 miles in 45-50 mins, so today I was gone for over and hour and a half. She was pretty upset at me! She was afraid that I got hit by a car or fell off my bike and was unconscious somewhere! Well, at least she does worry about me, I guess that says something.

Keep it up and befor you know it you will hit 50. Do like I do and tell the wife you will be back when you get too tired to go any further!

Very nice. Keep it up and you'll be doing that century. Note, always take a cell phone just for this reason. I went out for 25 and rode for 65 one day and my wife though the same.

Sounds like you had a good ride, this is good! And yes, it is good that the wife cares enough to worry :)

I second taking the cell phone, it's convenient to be able to check in, as it were. Courteous too. I also make sure that I take my ID and insurance card with me when I go. If something bad happens, and they find me, at least they'll know who I am....

(Of course, a basic repair kit too, unless I know I have a bail out ride I can call)

Congratualtions on the rides way to go and don't forget the cell phone and 4 quarters taped to the inside of saddle bag (cell phones die).

nice work with the mileage, keep it up. before i go out i'd leave word of where i was planning to go and what time i'd be back etc. i know its not always possible to know exactly but a ball park especially if like you said you were doing the 45 minutes and jumped up to the 90 minutes. fridge magnets are great yokes:) worry turns to fear, and next thing she won't want you to go out cos something might happen?

Hey Paco, wait til you have to call your wife to tell her you have to get a motel and won't see her til tomorrow. ;) I did that.....went out for a ride and by dark, hit the Michigan line ;) I was only 165 miles from the house. ;)

Holy Crap! Tom, you rode from Lafayette to the Michigan line in a day?! I hated driving up there, but biking it in a day. You're my hero.
