Im not sure about canada shops online but danscomp is a great place with amazing selection. Id suggest the We The Peple 4 Seasons, is light and strong and sick looking. Or maybe the stolen heist. I hope you get into bmxing!

Look into the high-end completes. And make sure you look for a big toptube.

Six hours ? To the nearest bicycle shop? Man, where are you?
Maybe this isn't uncommon. There are lots of bicycle shops in big cities. We sometimes forget that there aren't enough people in rural areas to keep a bicycle shop in business.
It seems ironic, or backwards. One would think it would be preferable to ride a bicycle in a rural area, far away from city traffic?
But then again, where I am located, on Long Island , the suburb of New York City, there are hundreds of restaurants, pizza parlors, chinese food joints, ice cream stands, etc., where a hungry bicycle rider could stop and have some food, within a few miles.
I'm just curious where you are, so I can Google it for bicycle shops.

Sorry if I got off-topic. If I had a thousand dollars, I would spend around $300.00 on a bicycle, maybe a few hundred more on accessories . I'm thinking you should buy an air pump, a half-dozen spare tubes, a spare chain,a chain rivet extractor, some spare spokes, a spoke wrench, a freewheel remover and a bench vice to hold the freewheel remover. Maybe you already have a bench vice, you need one to remove the freewheel if you have to install a new spoke on the rear wheel. But considering the distance to the nearest bicycle shop, you might want to "Be Prepared".
You could save a few dollars by wearing the football helmet you already have. Back in the 1970's , bicycle helmets weren't invented yet, and the only people wearing helmets while biking were the high-school football players.

The Subrosa is overpriced? I think not. Have you looked at the specs and stuff?

ya, actually seems more like just right.

That bike is stacked. If I had the $$$ I would definitely look into that or custom. But $1000 isn't really enough for a really good custom.
live4muzic2
04-21-08, 05:18 PM
Ya,a custom is over 1000 usually.

Yeah, wayyy over a thousand. I like to just go on Dan's and make one for the fun of it. Sometimes I go cheap and it still breaks a grand easily.

no that subrosa is sooo over priced. The new flows are better and way cheaper.

MAKE SURE it has integrated headset and not an american bottom bracket.
I could probably let my bike go for a grand...
Just get the kink apex. It is pretty much a custom. Good bars size, top tube length, and plenty strong. I highly recommend it. You should not need to replace anything on it for a while. One of the best completes out, and not overpriced at all, its actually really cheap for the quality. Dans also has it on sale.

I probably wouldn't. I would most likely get Hamilton's or Cielencki's.

The reason I went to PC's is cause I bent my hamiltons.

Get a low-end bike and work from there. I bend and break components, whereas my uncle snaps frames. So, depending on your riding style, upgrade the low-end, broken parts to high-end and keep the low-end parts that work. That way you can spend more on the broken parts. And don't forget the tools.

Can I ask how you did that?
Curious...
If you bent Hamiltons, PCs probably arent going to last you very long.
They're probably broken on your garage floor as I'm typing this.

seein as how you have money, i would go with one of the FIT completes. or a stolen. FIT makes really solid bikes and hey use decent parts on their completes. especially on the pro version. stolen's complees are pretty sick and you can pick one up for a reasonable price on danscomp. they have great customer service

Dans for the win! I spent a lot there.

they sure are a great little place arent they? every thing is relatively cheap, especially compared to my LBS, and if you buy right, then the shipping is actually worth it. unless you spend like $100 and dont have to pay for shipping at all. thats way better haha
ChristAir
05-05-08, 07:29 PM
Yeah. I love their fast shipping.
To stay on topic- tell us what you decide to get.

live4muzic2

I landed a double peg when I did not bike. I was haulng down this street and sat down and looked back and drifted towards the curb and then the gutter came up so i doubled.

SR, note that this is a relatively "old" thread, if the author hasn't posted his choice by now, he probably won't post it at all. And calling him a newb is going to speed things up either.
