Is it just me, or is this like the dumbest thing ever?
its not THE dumbest
just close
People show up to watch someone on a trainer?
the people who watch it are almost as cool as the people riding the bikes

Come along and find out before jumping to conclusions....
300 satisfied spectators and competitors.
the appeal, as I see it, is the fact that the crowd can really engage with the racer, they are able to get up close and observe the excitement and pain throughout the whole race, rather than just see them whizz by....so it's unique in cycle racing and more akin to boxing?
i had a rollapaluza at my house last night.
my dog had fun watching, i think.

i think you shot yourself in the foot by posting that video.
i was imagining a rowdy crowd filled with beer and fun...
I gotta admit, the RASH video made roller racing look pretty fun.

+1 Excellent fun.
Many people don't see the point in bike racing, motor sport football until you have had ago it's a bit stupid to judge so harshly.
roller racing is pretty fun. i'm a big fan of boston's format 'cause it's not just a spinning contest. we've got wind resistance, and you use your own bike.
this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Qf4KmtAVYU) is how we roll(er race).
i have a roller race at my house every other day.
i'm still undefeated!
Yeah I'm a fan of roller racing too... It used to be HUGE, along with grass track racing etc.

hey do you guys ever race with straight up rollers, front and back?
a couple members from this board have gone from the fixed fork events to racing on a full roller set, it looks challenging and very competitive. (plus people fall off 'em all the time) :D

we can do this, but we really like to involve as many people as possible, including non-cyclists.......also we like to include beer, so there might be an insurance issue there somewhere....it's interesting though as free rollers is a test of skill and power, our setup is measure of pure power (although some technique is involved) so more of a level playing field we feel....also why we use identical bikes and gearing.

looks boring and poorly lit. reminds me of going to a show where one of those really slow quiet bands are playing and everyone just stands and stares until it's time to clap.
also, show more vids of girls. girls on rollers are cute.

PS, i'm really just being difficult on purpose. Roller races seem interesting, but i've never actually been to one.

It's no more dumb than some lame themed alley cat or local bar crawl group ride.

If any of you are in London when a Rollapaluza is on I highly advice you come along and have a go it will be an excellent night. Winston and Caspar and the rest of the Rollapaluza crew are very friendly and put on a good night. They have even put up with a drunk me before.
The rapha roller races in portland were pretty fun to watch. Id recommend checking them out before casting justice. I know it does sound lame.
But you get drunk and make $1 bets with your buddies on who will win. Then you cheer your guy on and get a buck from your friend and put it towards another beer. Good times.
