I live in a relatively small town of about 60,000. I have not been able to ride my Catrike Road for three weeks due to back surgery, and thought a short Sunday ride (turned out to be 14 miles) would be a good way to start breaking back in. About 5 miles into the ride I am stopped behind a car in a left turn lane waiting for the light when out of nowhere comes a bum just screaming at me about "what's it like to be rich you bast**d, you son of a B, you rich as*hole" etc etc. Ok doesn't go beyond words and I ride off.

Then riding along the river I get a van tailgating me for a couple blocks, which then zooms around and a guy jumps out to take a picture. I guess he didn't get enough because he starts tailgating me again. Up ahead is another bum, this one on a bike. So I've got the van behind and the bum in front. I call "on my left" and he starts changing lanes to block me. When I finally pass he gives me some sort of drunken comment.

Now I'm on the leg home, and a car full of gang banger wannabes gets behind me honking their horn for a block, when they turn off there is a purple metallic older sedan behind them that actually has an external speaker playing rap music which follows me for a mile or so.

This ride is a bust for relaxation so I head home. About 2 miles out another group of bangers (maybe not wannabes either) pull up beside me and then slow down to pace along side for a minute or so, laughing and making comments and gang signs.

Ah, a beautiful Sunday evening ride.

Glad I don't live in your town, where ever that may be. On many spring days I get people looking at my Road and asking lots of questions. The kids just ask questions as I ride by and many times say "Cool bike!"

Also glad I don't live in your neighborhood...and hope this was a 'not to be repeated' experience.

Glad I live in a 'smaller' town - where I'm still the only 'bent rider that I know of. Cagers see me and move 2 lanes over 'cause they don't know what I am. :D
