Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - motorcycle helmet?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
would i be out of place by wearing one while riding my fixed gear?
get one that has like a holographic visor and a skull airbrushed onto it.
i see one that i want, it's a polo style helmet.

Why not, stronger than a bike helmet, right? But possibly overkill with a weight penalty. Not that I'm a weight weenie, but I like to keep stuff light if my neck needs to hold it up (there's a joke there somewhere).
mehhhhh....seems a lil out of place to me
but im all for diversity in biking

$19.99 motorcycle helmet?
Are you planning on using it to protect your head if you trip while walking or actual high speed?

sorry for the big second picture =/
that's me in the first one, but i have a visor. it weighs 600 grams.
i know many people who've taken a fall on them going faster than i normally cycle, and they work.
i plan on using it for riding sometime soon to see how it works out. theyre fairly expensive though
DOT certified, isn't this good?
longboarding can get pretty damn intense
i know ive taken some gnar falls on my vanguard

Not really, at least for motorcycling. It could probably take a hit at 15-20 (biking speeds), but for real motorcycling Snell certification is much more meaningful.

A proper motorcycle helmet will have a lot more bulk and will run you a hell of a lot more $$$ then that. It will also be Snell certified as well.

just keep in mind that they're HEAAAVYYYYYYYY when compared to bike helmets. i've got a nice shoei motorcycle helmet, but i couldn't fathom what it'd be like riding a bicycle and wearing it. eesh. i'll just wear my lil trek helmet, thx.

I would imagine that the visibility is terrible. I used to rock a CCM helmet. Now that was confidence. These days I have a Bell Scuffle. (http://xoomgear.com/manufacturer/Bell/helmets//Bell_Scuffle/431/)
Mine is the yellow one.

stylish, and even better for those 'ulock justice' moments.
edit: and it matches your gold chain and cranks.

I was going to get a Toronto Blue Jays batting helmet. Would have been so funny.

Hot, heavy, but if you were riding in cold weather I could see a use for a full face helmet. BUT, in slow speed crashes, (slow speed for a motorcycle 25 or less) motorcycle helmets can cause injuries due to their excess stiffness designed for harder higher speed impacts.
would i be out of place by wearing one while riding my fixed gear?
Yup. Unless you are riding a stoker at 100+ mph, then it is overkill.
