Anyone else who was out there today, feel free to chime in.
Wow, what a gorgeous day! It just really couldn't have been better. This was my first year to do the Easter Ride and I loved it!!!! Great organization, great food, super nice course.
Met whitesox in person at registration :) finally after having participated for many years in running/cycling forums with her. It was great to meet her although it was brief as she was "cattling us through" :p Hope you had a great ride, whitesox!
After getting my gear on and getting a grand send off from the Easter Bunny, I was off on the 68 mile course. Rode with lots of friendly, fun folk along the way. Rode a lot of miles with a new team, the Spidermonkeys. Nice group; great kit or costume as they preferred to call it.
By mid morning we had a little more wind than we would have liked, but no one was complaining. We were just all glad to be back out on our beloved two wheeled machines after a long Chicago winter.
The last rest stop had toasted bagels (yum), chili AND coffee!!!! That was the best! I love a cup of coffee no matter how warm the day. Speaking of warm, we hit about 75* there by the time I finished which was around 1:00.
Pleased with this early season ride....averaged 16.5 mph and it felt moderate. The bagel and coffee kicked in the last 10 mile along with a nice tailwind to bring the last 10 miles up to a 19.5 mph average. Of course, because I'm obsessive about round numbers for my log, I did brief out and backs to make the ride a full 70 miles. :D
What a fabulous day! I'd definitely go back again.
