Attended the bi-annual local bike club (GABA) swapmeet.
Couple friends asked me to try and sell their older tandems for them and agreed to do so.
Swapmeet starts officially at 6 A.M. Barely got a vacant spot to set up at 5 A.M.
Hauling stuff out of the station wagon including a 1985 custom Colin Laing tandem that's been sitting on a covered patio for 7 years and gathered rust/cobwebs. Needed tires, new chains and lots of elbow grease.
Sold at 5:15 A.M. . . . didn't even have time to put a price tag on it! It found a new home with someone that was visiting from L.A.
Before noontime sold an equally old (but nicer shape) British Mercian with a Phil Wood rear disc brake and old Mafac cantis. That found a new home in Bisbee, AZ.
Nice to get some new folk introduced to tandems. Buyers/sellers all happy!
Spotted 3 other used tandems: a 1980s Dawes Super Galaxy, an equally 'aged' Jeff Lindsay and a 70s Paramount track tandem (overpriced at $2,000).
Funniest part of the day: a brand new Turner 3 wheeled recumbent tandem. Not a trike with 2 wheels front and one back, nor 2 wheels rear and one front . . . but 3 wheels in a row! Asked seller "what's the purpose of 3 wheels in a row?" Answer: "In case you get a flat you can keep riding." Huh??? Then asked "what if you flatten rear tire, can you keep riding?". Expression on sellers face was priceless! Duhhh?!?
Pedal on TWOgether!
