So I finally get some time off from work. My job consists of me working in a reactive form of customer needs. So when nobody is complaining I get stay at home and not work.

Down time at work for me usually consists of lots of bike time. Road and Mountain alike, weather permitting.

So I rode the rode bikes a few times this week. My first time to actually ride on the roadie since moving to Charlotte. Nothing eventful other than realizing there is a lot more uphill roads here than in Louisiana.

Mountain biking however is a different story. I've visited the ER twice thus far (Twice in 3 days). The first visit involved a crash, rocks, cracked helmet, and an impending gash to the head which led to ER visit number one and some staples to the head. The second visit involved some speed and obstacle induced sprained hand and severely bruised limbs on the left side of my body.

My body is beat all to hell and back. Yet, I had so much fun abusing my body in this fashion. No I'm not emo and enjoy cutting myself and beating my body to hell and back. However, it's so exhilarating to get out and have so much fun. At the end of the day the injuries are worth it because it's a gift to be able to get out there and peddle yourself into the circumstances that the lazy don't get to enjoy. Crashes included. The only problem I have right now is that I have to go back to work and put cycling (again) third in my life (wife = 1 work = 2). :(

More crashes to follow soon. If you're not crashing you're not learning, so I'm told.

+1, nothing like that impending doom feeling, when you fly through the air and have a moment to think "oh CRAP" before you toss.

but, crashes are only fun if the bikes okay. if the bikes borke, crashes suck, IMHO

Sucks about the injuries, though, glad you had fun doing it! :)

There is always the nice feeling of pain meds...

It sounds you should be recovering shortly, so I'd try to get riding soonish, to keep from getting nervous about falling again.

Whoever told you that if you're not crashing..you're not learning needs to be slapped......hard!....repeatedly!

Glad you're OK though. I made MTB riding my "summer recreation" after ten years of being a hardcore MTbiker because every season I'd take at least one or two diggers trying to push it too hard. Then I'd be sore and achy for three or four weeks. So I took up road biking as my main recreation, smartest thing I ever did. I still enjoy mt biking, but approach it differently nowadays.

:oI've seen the dark side and embrace it. Only wish I lived out of the city more so as to enjoy more off-roading versus the urban mtb scene - unless I get out to the sticks so I can play in more dirt.

<looks over at roadie sitting on trainer> However, I do have some rides to lead this year so I have to get the roadie prepped for some riding ...

I'm thinking body armor and a fullface helmet would be a wise investment.
