Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - who's got a clever way of carrying a U-lock

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Do you have a bag?... or you can tuck it in between your belt and pants. works quite well

get a mini and it fits inside your belt... or just in your back pocket.

bike?
i sit my bulldog mini u in my back pocket
if you wear a belt, sit it under the belt between two loops.

you can carry two!
I never have to carry my U-lock cause it's always around a motorist's neck.

hire a sag driver and have him drive it around for you. make sure the vehicle has a rack, that way you don't have to search for bike parking when you get to your destination.
I use a big chain around my waist because I heard thats what messengers do

Leave your bike unlocked, then when some kid in skinny jeans tries to steal it you can choke him.
i actually never get off my bike so there is really no need for a lock

I carry two U-locks (lack of trust in the scum of Chicagoans), a larger and a mini Kryptonite. The larger one is a great way to lock up the front half of the bike and i use the mini to secure the rear wheel to the frame but carrying around the larger one is like having ball and chain tied to your leg. Throwing it in a belt loop makes you look like a clown because its so dang long but when its in the bag...it screws up the position of everything else and isn’t very comfortable.
The best route I’ve found is to lock it through the main strap of my Chrome bag, slide it to the bottom and strap it down with the lowest clip for the main flap. Only downside is that it if the main strap and mid strap are a bit loose, it will pull the bag under your arm pit.
I may just have to take the clown route.

epic thread.

there's a (i imagine) messenger around here that rides around with his lock in his hand, i think he has brakes and maybe gears though

Not exactly that clever nor my idea since the bag was made for it but this works so great! the quickest and easiest access to the lock. Didn't work as great with that big lock but mini's and normals are perfect! Someone told me that I was going to die when I wrecked with it like that and I have gone down twice and couldn't feel a thing.

Is between the strap of your bag and your chest, if you have a light load or are going on a long ride, hook the stabilizer strap through the lock.
Mini in the Ass pocket if i'm not bringing my bag

Mine is on the outside of my strap padding between some seatbelt material and the super think padding, I can't even notice it. I tried the stabalizer thing but got tired of hitting my funny bone and trying to ride a bike with one arm :)

i use a mini lock, and it easily fits around the frame, front wheel, and any parking meter or bike rack in chicago. and chicago's not that bad... i've been locking up bikes for years with both quick-release and bolts and have never had a rear wheel stolen on the north-side, west-side or downtown.

It's because those damn Illinois Nazis have chased off all the crooks.

i use a RELoad hip pouch. i got it pretty cheaply, and it's good, because while i'm working i can keep **** that i'll readily need in there. plus it's fast to whip my lock out and whatnot. convenient.
it's also nice to have there, rather than in my bag, for the occasional confrontation when it feels good to be able to speak softly, but be carrying a large stick.
so to speak.
wear it around your own neck
+1 make a necklace and see if u can make a fashion station so all the hipsters will start doin it

It's like the reason to use the mystical search function. Apparently most people have never heard of such a thing. Granted the most informative posts are in the archive ie. pre '98 but whatever waste your time if you like posting a a thread thats been on here no less than a million times.
