Mountain Biking - Can anyone help with history/specs

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I picked up this frame for a future project. Its a mid 90's?? Mongoose NX7.1 Pro with the following specs. Rear dropout spacing appears to be 126mm, the head tube accepts a 1 1/8 headset, the seatpost will be 30.9mm and the bottom bracket shell appears to be standard english thread.
I'm thinking about trying to install a 130mm rear road hub laced to a 26" rim to convert it to modern 9 speed equipment. Any ideas. The frame seems really nice, similar to my 2002 Jamis Eurika.

I remember when the Mongoose team was racing that frame, but sorry, I don't have any specific details on it.
What kinda info are you trying to find?

I was actually surprised at the 126mm dropout spacing as the frame appears to be new enough to have been at least a 130 or 135. Could this frame have been built when the old style 7 speed gears were still in use.

Yes, and it may have been built as a slalom specific frame. I remember a few companies doing that, however, they were smaller custom shops, not big brand manufacturers.
