Not severe. Riding from the lbs with new eggbeaters and was making the next to last turn home when...

sand + curb + turn = down. Just couldn't unclip fast enough. Bounced my coconut off of the cement but with the helmet I didn't feel a thing. Scraped the bar end up a little and the seat (not brooks). Other than that FX is ok. Wound up rolling on the left hand side of my back with bike on top of me :)

You get thrown off a horse, you get back on, so I did. Going to have lunch and take the 4300 out for a ride. It feels neglected :(

I'm sure I'll be a little sore tomorrow though.

At least you got the fall out of the way. Glad you are okay and that the helmet did it's job.

BTW, give that helmet a good examination. If it is damaged, contact your LBS and see if they offer crash discount replacements.

Welcome to the couldn't get unclipped club ;) It happens to all of us at least once. :p

Check that helmet for damage, as mentioned before, as they're designed to withstand and protect your head from one hard shot. :( Better the foam than the skull, so the foam is designed to act as a crumple zone to reduce the energy from the impact.

Good to hear you're alright. I'm always a little scared when I see gravel on the road. Bicycle or motorcycle. It's just to inviting for the wheels to slip out under you on that stuff.

Or twice. Or three times even.

Maybe it's time for a "post pics of your scars received while learning to ride clipless" thread. Or not.

Just a little scrape on the l eggbeater and l side of the non brooks saddle. Didn't even tear my pants. Was wearing cargo pants with a spring clip on the chainring side.

Wish I could've got a pic person in the car @ the stop sign though, kinda like 51's avatar lol

Ordered a B17 Champion for the FX just now...honey...gotta make it look pretty!

I guess I'm broken in lol

However hard enough to throw the blinky off of the under the saddle bag, never did find the batteries, and it still works.

Helmet looks ok, but I'll bring it down tomorrow, maybe I can get a new one :)

Thanks for the posts folks!

Glad you're ok. Pedals get scraped up sooner or later, guess yours just got there sooner than most ;)

As for the helmet, I'd replace it. It did its job. Some damage to helmets are hard to detect, and most helmet companies will send you a replacement helmet for a small fee if you send the old one in and describe the accident. I regularly replace my helmet every few years, as helmet companies suggest you do. That may be them just trying to sell you a new helmet, but the way I look at is a helmet is much easier to replace than my skull. :D

Short ride, went and got some Aleve :)

fc, you're right, the hat did it's job, I can't ask any more of it than that, I'll get a new one regardless.

Funny you should mention not getting unclipped in time...
I am just learning how to use clip/cleats (spd). I came back from my 9mile around the lake ride this afternoon, which involved a brief stop to adjust the cleats so they hit me more in the ball of my foot. While I was there I thought I might as well give the pedals about a half a turn to tighten them up a bit--my foot feels like it can move too much side-to-side for my liking (maybe that is just how it is and I need to accept it.)

Well I am pulling up to the van in a mostly deserted parking lot, slowing down nicely and unclip the right side. My plan was to come to a stop right behind the van, leaning over to my right side, and then, leaning on the van unclip my left side and disembark. I think everyone knows what is coming next. I suppose the motion of my moving my left foot outboard caused me to start listing to the left. It was like everything was in slow motion. Next time I stopped moving I was on my left side.

The worst part was there was a uber-thin, carbon-fiber racer man wheeling through the parking lot at that exact moment. He was just past me when the "event" took place. I guess the impact of a 240 body and an aluminum bike hitting concrete made enough noise he took notice. He wheeled around and asked if I was okay. What I meant to say was "Get the hell out of here and never speak of this indignity to anyone!" but it came out as a dejected "I'm fine." I suppose it was nice of him to ask.
Anyway, now I've had my one non-clip-releasing fall.

The uber-thin racer guy may well have had several dozen similar experiences.

Though we all have creative sides, most of our stupid moments are common to the tribe. Unless it's fun, there's no reason for any of us to be embarrassed about falling. Unless we get ourselves into a true road kil situation, it's all good.

Glad you are ok!

Good job getting back on...

Knocking on wood here. Haven't had first crash yet (gulp)...

Although I did get right hooked by a van and managed to ride it out around the corner with my shoulder firmly planted on the van. That happened at about the one month mark of riding. But I didn't go down.

(still knocking on wood)
