Road Bike Racing - interval training

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

OK I admit it..I'm not a racer...just want interval training so I can get to work faster. I'd like to maintain my 25mph runs over a span of 15 miles or so.
Would any of you racers direct me toward a simple interval training pgm that spans a TL of 2hrs training/day?
Thanks heaps

The Cyclist's Training Bible, by Joe Friel. IMO, there's no better resource for the self-coached cyclist, whatever your aspirations. You don't have to have the power monitoring gizmos (PowerTap or SRM), but a heart rate monitor is almost a "must."
"The Heart Rate Monitor Book for Outdoor and Indoor Cyclists", by Sally Edwards and Sally Reed.
It's got 25 workouts in there that are specifically geared towards a solid periodization programs. You'll find explanations about heart rate training and how you can work to become a better cyclist, then gives the most comprehensive program I've seen towards workouts that you can follow to build strength, speed, and stamina.

Try the criterium workout here... (www.trainright.com/page.asp?page_content=proshop&page_id=proshop&CategoryID=13)
You can adapt this to outside training, or of you have a stationary trainer, it's an hour of difficult work. The nice thing about the video is that if youa re training inside, it makes an hour go very quickly, but you can take the same principals outside.
