I am looking for a good winder cycling helmet, please direct me to any resources any of you have. It seems as though a snowboarding helmet will be my best bet, they don't make too many bike helmets without vents do they?
Phil
P.S. I live in Minnesota so winter starts mid august.
I have the exact same problem. The best I could think off was those offroad/downhill lids with the face guard. They look like motorcycle helmets but lighter.
(I get tempted to steal one from one of those attitude brats who bounce around crowded sidewalks all day thinking their pro. Grumble grumble.)
Anyway, yea hehe umm yea those helmets would cover the ears nicely and you could wear goggles without looking like a freak too. They aren't cheap though. :(
I go through too many helmets to make any serious investment in one.
Try this bell link (http://www.bellbikehelmets.com/main/product/tension.html#).

I think a solid helmet would be too hot. I got through last winter to -15 C (+5 F) with just a thin bellaclava under my bike helmet, was never cold in the head. There are waterproof helmet covers you can buy too. Mountain Equipment Co-op has them for $29.95 Cdn.
Here is the link (http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_detail.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=669481&PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=482423&bmUID=1069238478514)
One of those freebie shower caps you get at hotels is also a cheap trick. Make sure you get one with yellow ducks on it and umbrellas and you'll be the fashion king! :D
You can also try a cycling cap under the helmet for days where a balaclava might be too warm.

I use a Giro 9 ski helmet for skiing. Flaps over the ears instead of helmet material. It is vented, but the vents can be closed with removable foam panels.

I have used a helmet rain cover the past several winters. As long as you wear the proper head gear underneath, you should have no problems with the cold.

Same as TeleJohn, I use a vented snowboard helmet. Works great.
