I am considering a purchase of shimano sh-r125 road shoes and speedplay x/3 pedals.Does anyone know if these work together.

They will work together. Any shoe that is Look compatible will work with the speedplay x series. The pedals include an adapter than uses the look 3 bolt pattern.
