Foo has never failed me for all sorts of esoteric/urgent questions. So here goes guys...
I left my phone at one of the stores I went shopping at this weekend. I went back and
the phone was gone. No one has turned it in so I guess at this point it is not going to
come back. Hardly surprising given it was a Palm Treo.
I'm not eligible for an upgrade on my cellphone plan for another year so paying out
of pocket for a brand new one from Verizon would cost $$$$. Any idea where I can
look on the internet or elsewhere for a replacement that isn't going to cost an
arm and two legs?? help!!!

Just collect on the loss insurance you wisely paid for. :D

Report it stolen. Quickly. Tell your phone company to turn it off.

Correct! Then look on ebay for a modestly priced replacement.
First. just want to make sure you suspend that phone number until you get a new one. We had to do that when I lost mine. I lost mine while we were on vacation out of state, but my wife called to report the phone stolen right away.
The next thing we did was went to a kiosk at our local mall when we returned home. One of the guys there was super cool and always helped us out. When he heard what happened, he offered us a new phone at a discounted rate. It wasn't the same exact phone, but just as decent (of course, it wasn't a Treo either ).
If going to a kiosk at the mall doesn't work for you, maybe trying eBay might help. Just make sure whoever you bid and buy from have decent or 100% positive feedback and are not trying to sell a plan with the phone. You may not always find the best deals there, but you never know...you may find something you'll like even more.
Sorry if I'm not more help. Just trying to give suggestions based on personal experience.
