Road Bike Racing - It ain't no Wussyfest boys

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Comments below are from the Velocity One website (comments on last weekend's Battenkill Lactic Acid and Road/Gravel Rash Festival) and do pertain to some of the not infrequent cast of characters on the Nyack Ride:
>>Those guys raced super hard in the 3s. Its tough when you are going up against a stacked Cat3 squad and they keep on hitting you from all angles. Curious to see if Will Odonnell and Friefelder upgrade soon. Will would have been in the top 10 of Battenkill if he did not lead out Friefelder. Strongest team in the Metro area by far.<<
>>Roger A is from another planet. He came by me after I was dropped from the Cat 3s and was going so hard with one tag along. He won by 6 minutes and had the fastest time of any 55mile race. I parked near the guy he was in the break with and that guy said he had never pushed so hard to stay with a one man break. He got dropped. I hear he trains with water bottles filled with pennies - cool! I am sure Roger would have been top 10 in the Pro1 race<<
So Nyack ain't no Wussyfest, Pcad's presence notwithstanding. We haven't seen ODonnell yet, but I'm sure he'll come out some day and friggin murder us. I'll be hanging on in the back turning to other gassed 45+ Nyack mopes saying 'who the F is that up there today?'
And yes, if Roger A shows up on the Gimbels Ride they will all need their own cellphones to call their Mommies. I know when he shows up on Nyack that's what we have to do. Pcad is no dummy, he has Mommy on Speed-Dial.
I haven't been on Nyack since February, I've been racing non-stop. That totally ROCKS.

So I guess what that means is that Westwood is the Squad to be on? Good thing Nomad signed on. Now if we could only get that pesky penguin to put down the pints and the women long enough to ride his bike and race with us...

It is only fitting that a Road Nazi with 2% bodyfat, 15,000 miles of training per year, and other worldly PM numbers would be on Westwood, the aholes I am forced to chase many Sundays throughout the year. I am fairly well acquainted with the owners of the shop (for 20 years now), wonderful brothers, Mark and Alan, who have given much back to our sport. Sadly the Westwood Team Kit does not pass Pcad's unflinching OCP Fashion Standards. They are too Fugly to even contemplate.
But they look good on you W.

Not sayin' Roger A isn't fast, but we've got some CRAZY guys on Gimbels.
Rob races for Gotham/Toga. He passed me right before the final sprint on Sunday (which he won). And Sprinting isn't even his forte. He’s actually more of a climber. I don’t mean the little hills we go over around here. I mean like the mountain passes. He’s from the left coast and that’s where he feels at home and rides the best. So these little demonstrations of solo attack off the front on flats he does on our ride? Those are his weakness he’s working on to improve. Pretty depressing, no? There's also some dude on a Cervelo that nobody knows. He just shows up and rips the legs of everyone.
Robby is like the Roger A of Gimbels. He will come to Nyack and drop the goddamn hammer.

Roger A. just won the 30+ at Battenkill. He crushed the field.
Nuff said.
Hey Pablo you big friggin da Bronx Wussy, why don't you come up to Nyack and we'll drop the hammer on you. As for Pcad showing up at Gimbels, if you think I'm going that close to da Bronx unless I have to visit my Mother in Law, you're totally nuts. Laconia Ave. by the way. I was there last Sunday. And lived to post it here.
Sunday AM I was in Brooklyn, da Bronx and Manhattan on the same day as da Pope. It was da bomb.

It'd definitely be nice to have team support.
If my sponsor wasn't so generous I'd do it in a heartbeat.

KP, with your RHR, isn't that a long time?

I'm so glad to be in tiny little pond. It sounded so impressive to come home last weekend and say top 10 and lapped 1/3 of the field. Context is everything.

Does Nomad commute up there to race?

You are so right on this. Sunday I was driving home and passed a group of riders (very rare out here) - so as soon as we got home, I changed clothes, jumped on the bike and rushed to catch up - I figured they had a 20 minutes on me.
I managed to catch up. :D It helps that I do that section of the jungle all the time and there are two hills that will make you wimper if you aren't ready for them (almost everyone got off their bikes - if you don't balance right, you will flip)
So, I caught up, and then after a short time - sprinted ahead and left them in my dust (we were on a dirt / rock road)
Nothing like having the ole geezer of the mountain crush the local charity race... :D I might feel better about it if half of them didn't have training wheels.

As much as I can.

Come on Pcad. I live in the nice part of da Bronx. I'm not hardcore. I live in Riverside Bronx, not the getshotwhilegettingshot part of da Bronx.

Just busting BF balls Pablo. Laconia Ave. is by Pelham Pkwy and it's really very nice. Maybe not quite like Riverside, but nice enough. Any time you want to do Nyack, PM me and we'll figure out how to hook up. By the way, when I'm on the Nyack Ride, I bring as much Wussy as I possibly can to the assembled Testosterone Monkeys.
