So I was messing around saw that Felt had there 2004 product line out on the web, and they are making a cyclocross bike and frame set. Now realize I only know what the web page says (and I have not riden it), but would you buy a cyclocross bike from a company and it be the first year that they make it? My road bike is a Felt, and I love it. But I am just wondering if there is a "learning curve" for cyclocross frames?

learning curve might be steep, but i suspect felt hired someone who'd already been to 'cross school. it's a very nicely specced and designed bike [from the numbers], with very racey geometry [slightly steeper angles than a kona, for example]. i would certainly try one if i was in the market and if there was a fekt dealer around here.

I work for a felt dealer and we have already sold 3 of those rigs. They ride really well and are really cool looking in person. I built them and was pleased with how they went together, they are well spec'd for the price. Now for the bad part, they only brought 1000 of those bikes to the states for the 2004 season and every last one is gone, I bought the last 55cm they had 2 weeks ago. Frames are still available but the complete bikes are gone. Good luck finding someone that has one, the only one I have left is a 55. Great bike all around.

Felt doesn't make bikes. They have other companies build. All they do is find a comapny with a nice cross frame on their catalog and buy bulk.

So just because it is new for them it may be a frame sold in the past under other decals.

in fact, felt has contract manufacturers build frames for them to their specifications. this is a common practice, and one employed by companies like specialized, argon-18, bianchi and many, many others.

i'd be surprised if the felt frame was an off-the-shelf, though. i don't know of any 'cross frame out there with the same geometry and specs.
