I posted something similar to this a year ago, my significant other does not have a bike, and I am looking for something. Total budget is about CA$75.

She is definitely in the Athena category, I'm wondering about various models, yeah I know, same rules as for a Cjyde, heavy duty wheels, etc. I am thinking hybrid to start, and then work into something better once she is, uh hooked on riding. Opinions, I would especially like opinions of some of the ladies out there.....

Thanks

As long as she's riding pavement, for the prices, any of these are good possibles, from $30-$100 CAD.

It will not buy a new bicycle, however it should buy an "experienced" bicycle:D

Actually height around 5'5 with a 29" inseam (oants), so maybe a 30" stand over height. One thing you will notice about CL in Toronto is that 90%+ of the bike adverts have incomplete descriptions, and almost never show the actual bike size. One of the adverts has a bike that fits someone 5'4 to 6', yeah, uh-huh, like that is even possible. I think CL (at least here) needs to offer some instructions on making a bicycle advert. Actually I am currently watching one on the police auction site that looks reasonable. As long as it doesn't get bid above our limit.

Why not something like a mixte? Stylish, but easy to throw a leg over.

Just avoid getting one with steel rims (virtually useless in wet conditions).

That's kinda the idea, didn't they quit making those back in the 80's though? The problem here in T.O. is finding them, there are probably 10,000 of them sitting in garages gathering dust on well rotted flat tires, that people have forgotten about..... Oh well, gar(b)age sale season is starting again, so that's probably another source.....

Too bad you're across the border....I have something that would be perfect, but Customs and shipping would run the price way up.

Can you on CL post a "bike wanted" ad? I've seen some good successes here in my town with that, and here we dont' have the type of bike selection that you see in other places.

There's this one:

Unless she is well over 300 pounds, I suspect that she should be just fine with this bike. It's an old ad, but that might work to your advantage.

I emailed the seller to see if it's still available, if it is then I'll go take a look at it, and make an offer..... If the colour in the picture is anywhere near accurate, that should be helpful:D

I may also go to a used bicycle store here in town and see what they have, last time I was in there, it looked like a knackers for bicycles. They buy up a lot of the parts bikes from the police auction, and fix them up.

I know the advert says 'red', but it certainly looks like pink or rose to me ;) .

Good luck!
