I originally did this ride back in October, but I think I've got enough interest to do this again. So this Sunday, 4/27, we'll do a recovery ride (I'm doing Wildflower in Creston on Saturday).
When: Sunday, 4/27/2008
Time: 10 am
Distance: 61.2 miles
Altitude Gain: 4117 feet
Meet on the east side of Fremont Bart Station (http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF&msa=0&msid=102078571169316359854.00043d918e51c1110c698)

Ron:
Would it make sense to make the starting point in Fremont so some of the folks from North won't have to drive as far?
It would also allow me to perhaps ride over the Dumbarton for the first time to join up.

Ok, I'll have to change the route a bit. How's about Fremont Bart station? Unless it's a bit far for Sean, who's doing a TT in the morning.
I don't think I'll be recovering from anything, so maybe I'll actually be able to keep up with some of ya. ;)

If you're not recovering from anything before the ride, you'll need recovery after. Check out the Garmin trace from this ride - not the two double digit climbs. The first one is the Calaveras wall, and the second is Palomares.
Have fun!! :D

I like this route! Although, to be honest, I usually ride it the opposite direction because of time constraints (both Palomares and especially Calaveras are easier going the other way). Hmmm, anyone want to watch my kids for a few hours?:D
JB
PS - darn, I forgot - we're invited to an Easter celebration on Sunday - the kids would kill me if I tried to skip that!

If I'm in over my head, it won't be the first nor the last time.

I remember those 2 climbs very well. I also remember Ramone and Paula dropping all of us like a bag of rocks on those 2 climbs. Fun, fun stuff.;)

Fremont Bart sounds good to me.
There is a caltrain that gets to Menlo Park at 8:59 AM.
There to Fremont Bart is a 15 mile ride. So I can get there in 1 hour for the 10 AM start.

I would like to start from Freemont also. Bart doesn't get out to Bayfair early enough for me to get to the race, and I just don't want to drive. I'll try to get to the Freemont bart

Cool. Post edited.
Fremont BART sounds good. I can either park at the Bay Point station and ride from there, or just drive directly to Fremont. Closer than Milpitas, in any case.
I may have to try the Dumbarton thing as well. Along w/ the new bike. Tentatively in...

Ok, here's a revised route, with a start location of Fremont Bart. Meet on the east side of Bart, entering on Bart Way.

Here's an idea ... have a series of rides called the BF Bart ride. We can rotate where the starting location is. Now all we need to do is have someone volunteer as ride leader from venues we haven't started from before.
I'm in. Haven't done this route clockwise before, I forget how steep the hills are.

I don't think so. That honor belongs to me.:D
I'm bringing the fixed gear bike. 42x16 of spinning and grinding fun.

I am still recovering from last Sunday's ride on that same route. Cramps got the best of me climbing the backside of Palomares.... again. If my legs can recover by Saturday, I'll probably show up.

Let's coordinate where to meet up? Perhaps just before the Bridge along the waterfront?

Nope, I'm going to drive over. I'll want to be somewhat ready for the Palomares north direction climb. That one will be a lot harder than Calaveras south later in the afternoon.

Hey, your concert is not in the morning, is it? Hmmmmm?
At least you could ride over the Dumbarton with us! It'll be a mini-folder fest if you bring your Birdy and Mike rides his Pocket Rocket :)

Under 17lbs, good for climbing ;)Oooh, nice.
Hmm. I think I'll bring the bigger (new) bike for this ride. I'm not quite sold on the saddle I got for the Bike Friday. I'm worried doing more than 30-40 miles on it.
I did get a Specialized Alias for the new Carbon wonder. Feels much nicer.
Tough decision. The Bike Friday weighs 25lbs. but goes down to 26 gear inches.
The new bike weighs 17lbs. and goes down to 33 gear inches.
So in the end it's a wash.

We'll try to average 13-15 mph, but of course, when we climb Palomares, that will certainly dip. The emphasis is not so much the speed, but climbing.
