The emphasis is not so much the speed, but climbing.Of course, for some people, those are one and the same... :p

I'll probably end up in the back of the pack anyways.

Oh, I wish, I wish. It's in the afternoon, but I have a dress rehearsal in SF starting at 11.

Awww, too bad. Pain and suffering + Ms I > Plain Pain and suffering.;)

Hmm. I think I'll bring the bigger (new) bike for this ride.

OK, I guess the Folderama is going to have to wait for another day...

Ya know, with you, Mike, and Paula talking about folders, I may want to go searching for one. I just feel like I'm left out of the party!

Come over to my house. I have 5 very different ones that you can try, including a recumbent folder. They're great!

Recumbent folder! Pic?

I'm still on the fence for this ride. I injured my hip and have been off the bike for a week now after some chiropractic adjustments. I rode to work this morning and had a little pain in the general area. Hopefully its just from not riding for a while.

Folders are what got me riding again. It was easier to Bike/Bus Commute in LA with a folder. After a while I started ditching transfers and going longer distances. Still more of a bike-commuter... hence the over-the-top Xtracycle now.

It's a Downtube folder with a Cruzbike kit installed. Voila! Folding recumbent, with Front Wheel Drive. All done for about $1,000.

spingineer

Wow, that's cool. I'll have to take you up on that offer some day.

Alan has a very cool collection. :D

Alright, I'm gonna go ahead and say I'm in for Sunday. Get out there and stretch the 'ol cables one last time before the freebie tuneup on the new ride.

spingineer

Cool ... it will be a nice introduction for you. Adding you to the list.

Ya know, there are some things missing from this ride ... women! Yea, Marco is bringing Ruth with him, so thank you for that. Pete, you gotta start recruiting!

Please take me out of the list, Ron. Sorry, I can't make it. The boss has plans.:(

you can take caltrain @ 8AM from SJ to Menlo and meet us at the DB Bridge if you want...

kb5ql

Much less WishyWashy. I'm in.

Bridge crew: shall I meet you at the turn where University turns into the 84 (the Dumbarton)? Let me know. I am very close to the California Station as well and can guide us to the 101 overpass via Oregon Expy.

EDIT: Nevermind. Yes, the Menlo Park station is the way to go coming by train. I'll (hopefully) see you guys on the 84 heading toward the bridge.

I think I will. It's been so long since I've riden with the BF crew. So I get to draft the tandem right? :D

Pete did his job. :)

Thom and I will be there.

I've started training for half Ironman Tri. It's in August and a fundraiser for cancer. I missed the Solvang Double because of my knee (which I've since worked out) and knew there was no way I'd be in shape for DMD or even Central Coast. Therefore this year's goal of 5 doubles wasn't going to happen. I've always wanted to do a tri. So, I went for it. Seems like a crazy first distance, I know. I was a swimmer in college. The mile was my event. I think I can 56 miles on the bike in my sleep. :p Running... well... I'm working on it. I'm up to 3 miles in about 34 minutes. Not bad since I've only been training for a week.

Here's my website if you feel like donating.

See you tomorrow.

I'm in. I'm bringing bungee cords. Who feels like towing a little (okay, a lot) of extra weight?

Tandems = locomotive.

Sure.

If you want to hang around the station for 20 minutes, my train (coming from the north) will get there, you can ride with us to the bridge.

For the bridge crew (that are not meeting at the train station), here is the meeting location:

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=37.486535,-122.141871&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=17

Here's the route from Menlo Park station to Fremont Bart (stopping to meet at the location above):

http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Menlo-Park-Caltrain-to-Fremont-BART

I have it using Paseo Padre (once in Fremont), which is 2 miles longer than using the busier, less bike-friendy streets.

It's 18 miles, so Maybe we can make the meet time a range of 10:00 - 10:20 or so, since I don't know if we will average more than 18 mph on our way there (Caltrain arrives at 8:59 from the north).

If there's going to be tandems there, we could build a train!

Tandems = locomotive.

except we need to connect the drivetrains, otherwise they are no help ;)

True, but what happens when the loco runs out of gas ;)

Does that mean you are coming?

Actually, I just got back from Wildflower (I did not ride the century, but did do 69 miles). My legs are stiff after getting out of the car. We'll see who is waaay behind who. In any event, I'll be taking it easy.

Oh, hey, a ride tomorrow I'm not prepared for. Heh.

I should really just start sleeping in my car. I keep driving to the Bay area twice in a weekend, and it seems to always be in the same vicinity both times.

Does anyone need route slips printed?

Marco: I figure I'll be at the meeting point at 9:20 or so and wait for you there. Sound good?

Sure thing..

Can we have a roll call of who is meeting at the bridge...

1) Marco & Ruth
2) Alan
3) ...

Unapologetically driving to the meet point after getting lost on my commute the other day. I'd like to make sure I actually make it to the start point on time, and this way I'll have more of my morning to get my crap together.

With all y'all worn out, maybe I have half a chance of keeping up. Get to break in my new shorts too.

I wish I could do this ride but I can't get out of Church duties.
Have fun and take lots of pics.

Just got home after a looooooong three days. I've been eyeing this ride for the past week but haven't commited. I'll see how I feel in the A.M. Hope to make it. I'll be on the 9:57 train if I can wake up.

PrincessZippy

It was a long day for us on top of Mt Hamilton yesterday. The first rider came through our rest stop at 1:45, the last at 7. We're beat and I'm sunburnt, in spite of my best efforts to keep plying on the sunscreen. Maybe next time...

Have a good day!

Those DMD dudes ... they are insane, and knarly. Are you sure you don't want to just climb Palomares with us?

x136

I'm heading out the door here momentarily. See you guys in a bit. Hopefully. :p

PrincessZippy

Thanks, but no. It's a two hour round trip transit time for us to get over there. We've got all the weekend chores to do and only one day to do them. I wish we had three day weekends all the time so I could play two days.

Not gonna be able to make this ride. I was on my way to the starting point and got rear ended with my bike on the bike rack . No damage to either car since her bumper hit the rack by the hitch. But her hood hit my bike wheels and now they're kinda wobbly. After exchanging information, there was no way I was gonna be able to make it back home to pick up the other wheels and make it to the start in time. Needless to say no BF ride for me today :(. Anyway, I'll get the wheels trued up and have the LBS check out the rest of the bike to make sure it's okay to ride and hopefully I'll get in a ride later on today.

kb5ql

Waiting for the post-ride reports. I never made it to the main group. uspspro, SesameCrunch and I got somewhat "lost." Who wants to tell that crazy story? I did get to see Pete for 2 seconds, so that made my day. ;)

Large turnout, hot day, a few flats. Pete had the best comment before the Palomares descent. I was laughing the entire way down.

Great ride today guys. Good to meet you all. Glad I wasn't on a recovery ride, so I could keep up :)

Last 10 miles were fairly painful. Hot, hilly, and despite all the water, starting to get a headache.

I noticed that Mission Coffee seems to have moved (?) up right near Mission street. The coffee shop in that shopping center after hanging a left on Washington was closed. Only misstep was I misunderstood the directions and headed the wrong way on Washington briefly, after leaving the shopping center. I guess I didn't understand "return on washington" .. or, rather, I took it to mean "return back to washington, continue."

Also my computer was spot on all day, but the turnoff on Washington was a solid mile further than expected.
