and you end up with this(!): http://www.vimeo.com/919805 for those who don't check trackosaurus religiously. This video is more like riding in traffic than anything else ever!! I said "oh sh:)t!" out loud after a couple of sketchy risks pulled... see for yourself.

That music choice sucked ass, but the video was terribly good. They really seemed to put their fate in drivers hands a few times...

what does "running a bomb drop down Broadway" mean?

Finally a good race video like in the old days before all the sucky "I can skid downhill and ride a wheelie in the park" crap.

Lucas Brunelle taught me how I was supposed to ride in the city.

Music started out ok but they should have stayed with the 80's metal theme. Somehow it's always the best choice for racing.

Probably inspired by or at least from the same source as the "Broadway Bombers" race last year.

It started up around 250th or something and ended at the Battery. Straight shot on Broadway. I was in NYC and I really wished I had raced it. I was walking downtown and saw a few people racing by. My friend and I ran next to them and cheered them on. Probably the first time alleycat racing was a spectator sport.

oh damn, that was the most awful race. it got *cold*. the wet streets finally dried out around the time that the race started, but it started raining hard down around 34th street. i went down at union square, lost a bunch of places, could barely stop even riding with a brake, got really sketched out on all the metal plates, and went down again right before the finish. a friend of mine flatted twice and ran the last mile of the race, in bike shoes. something about that straight-shop scramble really got the heartrate up. the weather made it worse. awful race. awesome race.

anyway, watching Four Horsemen projected onto four big screens at Monkeytown was a lot of fun - it was a great idea. Very cool to swivel heads and catch one rider on another's screen and see similar stuff. A bit harder to watch on a tiny computer monitor.

the guy on the top right screen didn't do his 3 push-ups at the 2nd checkpoint. what a cheater.

I'm pretty good at multitasking but I can't watch 4 videos at the same time.

i'd rather watch the highlights with 1 or 2 videos going at once.

forgive my ignorance but DAMN NYC is big. If that was in orlando it'd be a 30 second video.

it was 4 different videos. it wasn't one video cut into four things.

word separate coverage is WAY better than having it all bunched up

I couldn't watch it, though I'm sure it would be better on a bigger screen and better resolution.

yeah. in a medium sized room packed full of people, with four screens (one on each wall)... it was very well done. it was created with that venue in mind, like the description in that link says. so the scrunched together version is definitely missing something.

My friend and I had just done Rocky IV in Philly a few dais before and we went down to meet Daily at the finish of the race that was earlier that day. After that we got dinner and sheltered from the rain and were walking home down Broadway, thinking that the race was already over. Then some dude came flying past us and 10 sec later another rider flew past. I think we caught the tail end though. We only saw about 6-7 people actually riding hard. We were about 10 blocks south of Union Square. The rain must have made it epic.

ha, this was most likely me and my friend coming in nearly DFL. i remember some random cheering toward the end of the route.

yeah, metalica's 4 horsemen would have been better, and lasted the whole clip.

I thought the exact same thing. At Bikesnob's suggestion, I looked up "fixed gear" on YouTube a few months ago, and it made my stomach turn. Stuff like this is a welcome change of pace.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=H63FivObTLM is the first video when you type in fixed gear... can't say the type of riding is my favorite but you gotta admit the song is top notch for the style of riding, slow and laid back.

But yeah, Lucas Brunelle style videos are definitely my favorite... I don't like the music of the 4 Horsemen either but you can always mute it and put on your own cut. I still think London Calling was Lucas Brunelle's best video to date...

http://youtube.com/watch?v=6nAjPWnWyUg this video after the first minute is also one of my favorites, sans bad music.

Untrue.

These riders would look funny bobbing and weaving all over empty streets. These videos show exactly how useful cars are. Namely as race obstacles, similar to barriers and stairs in cyclocross. If we could only impress upon the drivers that their usefulness is past when the race is over and that we expect the streets to be clear for our commute the next morning.

andre nickatina
04-24-08, 09:54 PM
^ ^ ^ oh yeah i remember that. there was another hole between the kids that would have been slightly better to veer through. there's some insanely close calls of getting hit if car didn't hit the brakes too.
