Hi all. My Tricross Sport came with "Alex ACE-19" rims, and I'm now wondering how good they are - they seem to have gotten out of true after only very mild abuse. I don't race cyclocross (I don't think it even exists here?), but do the normal kerb hopping etc. Just wondering if a cyclocross expert could tell me something about them, as Google couldn't help.

It might just be an opportunity for me to learn how to true wheels, as my last efforts have been pretty disastrous. Also, I guess it's possible the spokes weren't tensioned highly by the LBS?

Thanks for any info,
Steve

Not a cyclocross expert, but my Moto Fantom Cross came stock with Alex DC 19 and my results were the same. Plus the darn seal kept popping out and the rear wheels had play only after 500-600 miles. Fixed with new handbuilt wheels.

I doubt your LBS did anything more with those wheels than take them out of the box and bolt them on. Spoke tension and truing are more important than the quality of the rim. Even the cheapest crap rims run true and stay that way if properly tensioned.

Either learn to do them yourself, or get those wheels trued up by a pro.

I have a set of Alex rims ( not the exact model as yours) hanging in the basement. Rode 2 warm up laps on them on a very muddy course and they are both tacoed beyond repair.

Should be an ok rim, but it's all about the build. Spokes are key too. If your wheels continue to be crappy, fish the hubs out and have them rebuilt onto Mavic A319 rims or lose some weight and got to CXP33s.

Hmm, sounds like a trip to the LBS is in order. Thanks.
