So, im looking for an alcohol that still tastes like alcohol but also has some sort of delicious flavor. Not one of those smirnoff twisters or mikes that have alcohol in them but cover up the tast with carbonation and tons of added flavor but also somthing a little more high class (but not too expensive) then burnettes.

suggestions?

Beer...

If you want higher class. Beer in a tall glass.

Crown Royal is pretty good too.

Why do you want the alcohol if you don't like the flavor? There is nothing wrong with not drinking.

Liquor or something with less alcohol?

I really like Absolut Vanilia, vanilla flavored vodka. The vanilla flavor is really subtle, not overpowering at all. Quite nice to sip on.

Haha, I have some fun stuff!

1 shot vanilla vodka (I prefer Stoli Vanil)
1 shot Creme de Cacao dark
splash Kahlua
Milk or cream.
Mix it all in a short glass with some ice. Sip on it slowly and it tastes like chocolate milk! Go faster and you taste the alcohol.

Mojitos are also really, really good when made well.

Oh! This one sounds weird, but it's goooooood. We drink it at all the family events on my dad's side (Mexican side of the family).
1 shot tequila (any kind, but I prefer mid-range for this, Cuervo Tradicional for me)
juice of 1-2 limes
Pinch of salt.
DIET coke. Has to be diet, regular tastes weird with this (this is the only time I'll drink diet soda)
Mix it in a medium sized glass (with salt on the rim if you're into that).

Mango nectar and rum (light works best) is always, ALWAYS good.

Vanilla Vodka and coke.

Or go with something traditional and nutritious...sangria!

That's all I can think of for now....

How about hard cider? There are various ways of making it--pear and apple, and I have had raspberry, peach, black currant, etc.

Delicious is a subjective quality.

I find peaty single malt scotch to be delicious, yet other people think it tastes like bourbon that someone poured through a houseplant.

If you want something that still tastes like alcohol, then don't do the disservice to the distiller and purchase something with all kinds of flavours which are added after the fact. Single malt scotch, small batch bourbon, craft distilled rum, and gin all have subtle differences between brands and varieties based on the fermentation ingredients.
Save the sodas and artificial added flavours for the bottom shelf mixer booze: Popov vodka or Old Dan Tucker whiskey.

if you're going to do shots... might as well make it tequila.

Won't taste good, but you won't remember it.

Try some good gin (Pinnacle is a good inexpensive brand), mixed with ginger ale and a little lime.

Yummy.

Applecorn (the real name is German, (appfelkorn?) I think, but can't remember the proper spelling). It is a liquer that tastes like apple juice. Throw it in the freezer to get it cold but it won't freeze. Take shots as required. Goldschlagger is a cinnamon liquer. Again, best cold.

There is no such thing as Good gin. Turpentine would taste better.:p

I'll second the single malt, particularly Oban, though.

Go for a manly drink!

Jalapeno (or seranno) infused vodka. Start with devent (not great) vodka. I use Trader Joes Vodka of the Gods. Get 3 Jalapenos wash and split in half. Put in mason jar fill with vodka and cover for 3 or 4 days. Strain out jalapenos.

Traditional to serve ide cold. Works fine at room temp.

Surprisingly hte Jalapeno fire killes the vodka fire. The burn fades in a minute or so and no effects the next day or two unlike many other peper based items.

Because of the Vodka used I call it Devils Brew, or Firewater or Dragon Piss, depending on who I'm drinking with and where we are drinking.

Enjoy this over crushed ice. It's not very expensive, but it is delicious. Whatever you do, do not add cola or turn it into a frozen fruit drink (that's why god invented Bacardi). The 4 year old is also quite good and very reasonably priced.

If it doesn't have to be hard liquor, give port or one of the fruit Lambics a try.

Oh dear "dog" that IS a truly (used to be 18 yr old and less) first timer experience.

To tell you the truth - I haven't bartended in probably 7 years - and I think I made only a couple drinks in my 6 years of bartending with sloe gin.

:D

sloe comfortable screw used to be my fav when I was legal. Nasty sweet drink that was a total creeper upper and BAZOOM.

<cough> never happened btw

ouchers - technically it's a 4 1/2 shot drink (though bars charge for that - most only put a 1/2 shot of the four "whites" - rum, vodka, gin, tequilla into the drink plus triple sec and other stuff) - although my ex-husband used to find the bars the made those pint size glasses fully fueled. Must say - they do taste good. I usually had college students coming in to drink them (of drinking age - and were proofed).

But I do have to say that serving drinks, who's legal, deciding who's had enough, and who will not get served no matter what is a tough call on a bartender's part these days especially. I don't want the responsibility any more and will not bartend, even at some local events I was asked to do. You can protect yourself all you want by having a bouncer proof, you proof and you know what YOU server that person - but who's to say what has been ingested before (hell I'm a kind of person who looks and acts freaking normal after what is most likely over the legal limit) - or during being in the place (lots of people hit their cars for whatever) - and so ....

No thanks. Lots of legal ramifications nowadays!!

For all of the wise and correct posters that mentioned single malt scotch, the OP put a disclaimer in his post about expense. Oban and it's equals will all run over $50 for a 750ml bottle. Hence, I did not put those on the list.

How about a dirty vodka martiin, dry, with some pearl onion stuffed olives?

johnny walker blue label - yum

was on a scotch tasting craze with my ex several years ago - and met some good ones, some very expensive ones and a couple of nasty ones. Stay away from Isle of Islay stuff, myself.

But dirty martinis with LOTS of olives and brine is yummy!!

I would have replaced "houseplant" with "ashtray" in that sentence, but the same idea. Definitely an aquired taste. On the other hand, the first liquor that came to my mind when the OP said "delicious" was (ironically enough, for reasons below) Johnny Walker Blue. It's a blended Scotch Whiskey that goes down super smooth and tastes strikingly -- delicious.

The irony is that I hate all types of whiskey. Always have, always will.

JW Blue is extremely smooth, but has little flavor. If you like incredibly boring and even more incredibly overpriced scotch, it's great!

Islay malts are superb. Caol Ila, Lagavulin, Ardbeg (17!)... Smoky, earthy, peaty, wonderful. Nectar of Heaven.

OP, have a Cosmopolitan. Girly and tasty, all booze.

Well, like I said, I hate whiskey, so that makes sense.

OP, have a Cosmopolitan. Girly and tasty, all booze.

I found a recipe for "The Educated Cosmopolitan" which I crack out every now and then when I want to swig something that tastes like fruit juice and will knock me on my ass instantaneously:

- 4 parts vodka
- 1 part Cointreau
- 1 part Chambord
- 1 part lime juice
- 2 parts cranberry juice...or maybe it's 3 parts cranberry juice, but heck, by this point who cares?

Shake it over ice, strain, swig, fall down. And yes, it's "delicious".
