Depends on how many peeps I can drag along... the more the merrier probably Saturday, unless Grumpy prefers Sunday.

I'll be out of town riding Wildflower Century for my last BA training. I rode Oak Glenn and Damnation Alley up to Angeles Oaks last weekend; saw lots of other riders training for BA.
Should be fun!

Just updated the first post... we can always adjust the route if necessary, I thought about up/down/up/down South Grade but I wanted some variety, beside I've never climbed East Grade before.

It's not like Grumpy and I are 'pure' climbers... more like plodders. Now Chuckles, he's pretty good, infact I consider anyone that can climb Palomar with a standard double as pretty damn strong. You're more than welcome to join the suffer fest. The best part about it is that if you feel like you want to call it a day, just turn around and it'll mostly be downhill. Either way, it's all good.
Weather peeps are predicting Sunday to be high 70's low 80's for the Palomar area - nice.

i don't use a standard double. i'm all about the compact. 34/19 is my friend.
i decided to go ahead and race punchbowl on saturday, so i definitely won't be chasing any records on sunday.

I wish I had a compact.
But seriously, I can't even get up Mt. Helix. I can't climb at all.

I might join you guys if I feel spunky after the Alpine Challenge on Saturday. Don't wait for me though - the masochist in me is dying slowly.

Did anyone melt?
Chucklehead
04-27-08, 08:19 PM
No, but we were almost blown backwards down the mountain at one point. Strong headwinds near the top.
Other than that, it was nice and cool while we were at the top.
Why didn't you come along?
Did anyone melt?Hot in Pauma Valley and cool at the top. You missed out.
The headwinds were a little tough on the way up in spots. I was about 100 yards behind Ian. When he would go around a turn and be exposed to the wind, he would stand and almost stop. Then I'd know what to expect.
CH said he had no power. Then he dropped us and got to the store 30 minutes ahead of us.

Actually, once you got to the base of Palomar, the temp's are actually comfortable. What really sucked though was the wind. There were times when I would approach an open turn and be almost at a standstill because of the wind. Considering the wind that was picking up and heat, we decided that after south grade we'd return back to the cars - no point in pushing it now with BA coming up. Also, Chuckles ascended Palomar in 1.20 - awesome. Now, I'm just hoping BA has cool weather.

It's comforting to know that I can always trust you to lie to me. Admit it. It was hell.

I assumed that South Grade would be doable. It was the thought of East Grade after the heat picked up that made me bail and stick to the coast. It never occurred to me that you guys would simply wuss out. Brilliant!

Hmm... Tacos or 12 miles out-and-back of heat and headwinds.
Tough choice.

Well...my lazy ass hasn't been on BF lately, so I missed this thread completely. Bummer, because I definitely would have joined. I need to work on my climbing.
Question: What is BA? (is it the bci bear mountain century?)
