JB Welding D/T shifetr bosses

Any of you frame builders out there ever pinned and JB WELDed shifter bosses to a frame to protect the finish or maybe because it was carbon or alu? - Thanks

It could be the answer if the radius on the backside of the boss matches the frametube! - O

Is your bike Al? If it isn't then you run into the issue of whether the radius will be right (epoxy likes to fill a void), and whether the hole size that is correct for aluminum is correct for a narrower tube where a higher percentage of the material will be gutted. Also in some cases you may be in a thin wall section of a metal tube.

If I did have a steel bike I wanted to add levers to and didn't want to mar the paint, then I would use clamp-on style shifters. My first bike, a Peugeot, hardly had a BOs on it, everything was secured around the tube. Another alternative would be to use bar-ends, which is what my bike has though there is a cable guide that uses the shifter BO anyway.

The aluminum example shows that adhesive by itself may not be enough.
