Foo - Were you the guy I saw in Baldy Village yesterday, 'round 12 noon?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I had been driving my great aunt (me mom's sister) around and went up to Baldy Village in the San Bernardino Mountains and after lunch as I was walking to our truck a guy passed me on his bike. He was working hard (and who wouldn't up that road), pedaling nicely. I smiled and told him to "Keep working, Keep working. . .) and he smiled back and rode on.

I told him that I wanted to ride up there some day--and I do, but I think it's gonna be a while.

Was it you? I saw lotsa bicyclist out yesterday. The weather was beautiful.

I categorically deny ever being near Baldy Village at any time during my checkered career as a bicycle rider.
If I had, I would have been wearing my forums jersey, and would have enjoyed a chance for a chat with a fellow member. I'm very sorry it wasn't me.

Foehn, you have reminded me of something. It really has nothing to do with your post, so don't get annoyed with me. :)

At work, since I'm the only bike commuter, I seem to get a lot of comments like, "I saw you riding your bicycle the other day! It looked just like you--it had to be you--I'm sure it was you!" only to find out it couldn't have been me because I was nowhere near that area at the time. "But they had a yellow helmet, just like you--it looked like you!"

Well, I guess I'm sorry your bicyclist wasn't me, too!

:D (Have a great day!)

Hi foehn, how ya been? You gotta do that ride my friend, you'll be proud once you hit the parking lot at the ski village.

I wish it had been me. I love that grind up Mt Baldy. It is very painful but the downhill run is to die for.

BTW, did that area get burned? I hope not.

Isn't that type of comment related to "Oh, you're from Los Angeles--do you know. . .(fill in name of actor/person of your choice).

I get people regularly telling me they saw me riding around. But they can usually describe me, and as I am some what "distinctive" on the road, they usually did see me.

And since I drive an old VW bus, lotsa people I know wave and honk at me, but I rarely see/hear them; I guess I am just concentrating sooooo hard.

And as for riding in Baldy Village--hail, I wish it was ME!

I've been fine, but cold. Oh My GAWD, it's been a whole 55 F and drizzly. Three weeks ago, it was hot and the hills were burnin'! :p

I'll have to start doing partial runs up that hill. Should improve my endurance, no?

And I Say "Poppycock!" to the top (the ski village). I'll be happy (and lucky) to make it to the Lodge in the Village proper and have lunch! I don't know what I'll do about the downhill because it scares me. I'll probably run speeds up and down , up and down, 'cuz I am too paranoid to go much faster than 35mph or so.

Everything from above the most uphill tunnel was spared from the fire. Waiting to burn another day, I suppose!

We all look a like to them - And that is the essence of the problem.

Used to do the Glendora Ridge Road Ride every year in late April. We would take Colorado Blvd. over to some place in Azusa and get on Glendora Mtn. Road(I can't remember the exact route-it's been 20 yrs. since I last did it), go up Glendora Mtn. Road to Glendora Ridge road, over Glendora Ridge Rd to Mt. Baldy, then down Mt. Baldy Rd.(Mountain Ave.) back to home in Claremont. I think it's a 40 mile loop if memory serves. Great ride. Not a good ride to do this time of year though-some surprising weather can spring up between Halloween and Easter on the mountain.

I remember the ride down Mt. Baldy as more of a drop than a descent-you feel like the bike is coming out from under you when you're going that fast.

The steepest descent I ever did was from the Tahquitz Rock Trailhead on San Jacinto Mtn. to Idlewild-very easy to get to out of control speed very quick.

Yes, it was not me either.
You'd be surprised how many answers you'll get like this, if you just keep asking.

About a month ago I did a through hike of Mount Baldy (Mount San Antonio), left a car at the ski resort, and took my mountain bike down to the ranger station. That hill is steeeep, even for a car. One hell of a ride. Going up would be a real accomplishment. The road climbs from about 2000ft to 6300ft in about eight miles.

No, I guess it wasn't me.

Do it.
