Hey there, I am a NEWBIE! I have been borrowing my friend's mountain bike and LOVE it! I want to take my 14 year old. He has a BMX bike. Can he ride that on the mountain bike trails? They are beginner trails. Thanx

It should work, but it will most likely be more difficult. Let him try it out.

Should be fine. By beginner, I assume there won't be any rocks or large jumps, and everything is nice, smooth, packed dirt. The worst it will be for him is it might be hard to go up hills, depending on how steep they are, and a bit bumpy at times. I would say go for it.

I would first find out if your 14 year old actually wants to ride along with moms. If he does, then, great! His bike won't be as stable or easy to pedal on the rougher parts of the trail which means you might have to slow down for him at times. He should be able to handle it though. The key is to make sure he has fun out there and stays safe.

you can ride a bike where ever you want too

I agree with chicagotypewrit. Also, your son just needs to lean back a little in case there is a tree root or what not. Because if he hits one and he is leaning over the handle bars, he'll end up doing a no-handed superman. Other than that, have a great time! By the way, if he is not a member of these forums, tell him he's welcome to join.

Well I suppose you can take a Trek Madone 5.5 up a vert wall.. it will just be a very expensive carbon pile on landing.

Y'all forget when you were 14 you were probably faster than your Mom no matter what you/she was riding. If Mom ain't falling, the 14 year old won't be falling either.

True that.

Be like crashing an enzo... wreckage would look about the same... carbon pieces everywhere
