I saw a TrioBike today. I did not have the opportunity to chase the owner down and ask them about it.

It looks rather intriguing, anyone know much about them, or had the chance to ride one?

I did not know that it was available in the US.

I don't know that it was bought in the US.
I've been down by the coast for the last week, so it could be a tourist's bike or belong to one of the jet setters that are all over the place down here.

Yes, but consider what it replaces. A bike, a stroller, a trailer, and (perhaps) a car.

Maybe, maybe not...take into consideration the devaluation of the USD and the fact that a Bakfiets (http://www.bakfiets.nl/eng/) runs close to $3k optioned out. Bicycles are a small run production type items (and especially the ones like Trios and Bakfiets). There is a fair amount of manual labor involved, all which drive the pricing up, as well as having to import them in small batches. But considering the cost of other things they are IMHO a good value for the price, and should last.

Also, once your own kids outgrow them, you can pass them on to friends/relatives. Or, in the case of the BAK, use them for cargo.

My kids are both in college/grad school and I still want a Bakfiets...it could come in handy for grand kids...one of these days:p

I sent them an e-mail to that effect.

4. (Other applications?)

There's a trailer company whose largest one can take 'a passenger up to 5'10" and a payload of 150 lbs.; that's a smallish adult.)

I got an email from the Zygo people to the effect that they are working on a pet carrier.
