OK, so my chain has been loud for the last week - I try to get to it - but didn't. Do a quick clean at work (they're used to me doing a bit of wrenching) - run out and ride - (knew it was going to rain on and off this afternoon - so I had a coupla minutes extra this morning so I attach the back Zefel fender, still have the mudguard on from a few weeks ago and can't find the front Zefel and make sure I have full heat and tail lights - ya know - just in case).
OMG - the skys let loose a few times during the afternoon - but ... most importantly ... the major storm rolled through 15 minutes before I was to leave ...
So I spent some time making sure the expensive headlight was secure (for some reason it loosens easily) and took my time and --- ahhhh thunder/lightening was over and clearing up.
heh - no biggie - get out and do my normal route home and then go under a train track underpass that is notorious for having the storm sewers plugging up and having accidents, etc and guess what!
I ran into a lake. Kept on riding with traffic in front and in back of me, although the trucks that I was riding "with" slowed down so as to not flood themselves - I was already out of the saddle and peddling - water level was over the full extension of my pedaling - hehe I mean I've ridden thru some minor streams and such but not for an extensive stretch of underwater!
But the best, as I was personally being amazed at the traction I was getting being underwater, but it was the dink of a big truck w/full cab that could see the expanse of water from the small hill he drove down to the underpass - didn't care and hit it at more than the 30 mph he was supposed to be doing and so it was the black, mucky, goobery water that then became a tsunami over the small truck next to me - that slowed down him down to get thru the water that was up to his floorboards - and me.
Me - I was outta the saddle anyway and plowing thru the small lake.
Yeah, that SOB truck in the other lane was a great guy. But ... all in all - I discovered what it is like to bike thru some deep water. Big Grin hehe - my bike looks like poo too!
Ahhhh - all in a commuter's life! :D
