Very nice. I never cared for the "skateboard" look of the stock snap deck, and have been considering black to match my red and black Hardrock. What did you use for a finish?

pardon my wienerliness but your freeloader lashing in the rear isn't right: should have that webbing looping around the steel frame to secure the v-racks and tension the fabric very tightly to minimize cargo sway: see the manual. also the snapdeck should have the snappamajigs (sp? but that's what they're called!) on the bare aluminum parts, a couple inches forward, instead of biting into the fabric parts. this allows you to slide the deck fore/aft slightly to tension the v-racks, and encourages you to load bigger items on the deck as far forward as feasible for best handling. the tip of the snapdeck nose should roughly touch the plane in which the forward straight parts of the v-racks reside.

you should mount a mercedes hood ornament at the front of the deck, no?

Redo the footsies like the Snapdeck and put on that stick-on, non-slip stuff in strips. We use it all the time in the PNW for wood porch stairs so people don't slip in the rain. It's got a gritty surface on it - I hope you know what I mean. :o

There is a thread on the Xtracycle Forum about mods people would like to see. I requested some olive drag free loaders for the ultimate MASH meets Big Dummy setup. No idea whether Xtracycle will make anything other than the basic black freeloaders, but if you want to see different colours let them know. Most businesses will make changes like that if they get enough customer feedback.

What we really need is a company to do some after market freeloaders that are waterproof and covered...:rolleyes:

Unfortunately it is way too small a market niche to get them interested, but my ultimate freeloader fantasy would involve Ortlieb making some after market bags!...:eek:;):D

Dunno if it would work in this instance, but years ago when I worked for a swim club that had a team we repainted the starting blocks and sprinkled some sand into the paint before it dried. Gave great traction (for wet, bare feet) and blended with the paint so it wasn't visible.

Frankly I don't know of any place that does RF welded PVC dry bag type custom work???....Do you???....I'd be willing to fork out some $$$ for the right set of bags and if we got a few sets made that might reduce the cost somewhat.

I don't necessarily agree.

Given enough money to spend, I think there's any number of people who would be happy to make something -- without even getting into locals, think of all the people making custom messenger bags now. No, not the people with a year-long waiting list, but some of the others who might see this as a potential niche for them.

If there's a big enough market to justify custom snapdeck pads, there's a big enough market to justify designer freeloaders. Of course, there's a huge difference between something to just look different and the full-on waterproof touring quality bags some people are wanting.

[edit] the OPs snapdesk is definitely nice. Clearly painted by someone with better skills and painting equipment than myself.
