Foo - Talk me out of it.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I've really tried, honest.
I've stayed away from the website, I've even resisted not calling the guy who helped me get the setup juuuust right.
I have always wanted a certain bike (if I show you, I'd have to look at it again and I'm a little weak right now) but I kept making up reasons to not get it. I tried not to think about it for about a year and a half. Maybe it's the good weather, I dunno. Now I'm longing for it again.
I'm thinking of selling the Cake and getting a replacement for it.
The economy needs your help. Do it for your country and countrymen.
What are we talking you out of?

What are we talking you out of?
Really? Did I ramble so much I didn't get the point across? See? I'm just over taken by this.
No wonder you guys are telling me to do the opposite.
But why. That's your choice.

Thank you for your advice Jon. You are right. And all this time I thought it was YOUR choice.

I have always wanted a certain bike . . . .
I thought you already had your Moots.
And you can't sell the Cake. What would we all do on our birthdays?

This would replace the Cake. It's another XC bike.
Plus Gnome has the Birthday Cake pics now. I don't have them anymore.

Boy you collect bikes like I collect camera lenses. Each one serves a specific purpose, even if it seems like there is a lot of overlap and some don't get used as much as others. In your mind, there is a place for each one in your life.
The answer of course, is that life is too short to fret over your bank account. You got a job? Good. The bike will be paid for. If not now, in a few months. And it will be worth it. :)

Well if it's my choice then the bike need to be in my garage. :D

I have the money it's just that I really shouldn't fork out another 3k on a bike.
But yeah. You understand, don't you? Every one has a purpose. :o

You really could use that fixed gear bicycle Siu.

I'm asking you guys to talk me OUT of it, not encourage me. This is really tempting though. The weather is right, and I've always wanted it in the back of my mind. But I couldn't justify it because I had the Cake.
What XC bike are you looking at siu?
If the cake is a nice deal I could try to get money for it. It'd take me a month to have that kind of money.

If you have a favourite brand of bike that you usually buy, please let me know what it is. I want to buy stock in that company.

One can never have too many bikes...unless you're in a rowboat or under a pile of them.
I say keep the Cake and buy the new bike. That way if you crash your bike you can have your cake and "eat it" too...BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
under a pile of them.Even then, bikes aren't airtight, so you can still breathe, and rainwater will trickle down through.

It's a weird addiction ... one that I'm starting to catch. I thought I'd be content with a MB and a road bike. However now I'm eyeing up another bike. Between my growing addiction to bike collecting and my already well established addiction to power tool collecting, I'm starting to run out of storage room.

Okay I might gonna probably most likely consider it seriously now. But I have to sell the Cake first because I'd feel stupid having two XC bikes.
If you sell the Cake first, there will be a period where you don't have an XC bike at all. Better to briefly have two than to have none!

Sui,
If it's a Moots....then I can understand why you would be willing to unload the Cake to buy it. Otherwise....keep your money in your pocket for something else that comes along in life.
Moots...thumbs up. Anything else.....thumbs down.

Siu, the correct number of XC bikes is X+1=n
n = the perfect number of XC Bikes
X= the number you currently have. ;)

I rode every bike in the photo (except the Woodrup) around the block (four miles) a few days ago, and lined them up as I had ridden them.
But they don't get stored out there  !

I've been mulling over a CX bike...but I'm not certain how likely I am to find a vintage one in my size.

I was pleased to find the Thrill--not only was it my size, but I think it had been ridden only once or twice!

Why is nobody else calling bull **** on this? I mean come on, it never ends. Woe is my poor ass, next day look at my thousand dollar toy I just bought. You know Jon, if you ever got a job, you could stop haggling and manipulating people.
Hey, it's Michigander. Are you still in the lower peninsula, or have you finally moved?

I'm almost gone. I've been real busy lately, but I just finished up working the insane hours, and I'm about to go. Just gotta do some obligations. I organized an open carry meeting in Lansing, so I gotta stick it out to do that before I leave.

An intelligent, meaningful comeback would consist of why I was wrong.
I don't know what you're talking about, I bought that "1000$ toy" probably 8-12 months ago with my own hard earned money. I do part time work, I have some money. Sometimes I'm broke, sometimes not. I don't manipulate people at all, I'm actually fairly giving. Siu's pink bike, is the product of a few days of my work for a family friend. I gave it to her.

I thought that bike was given to you, but it didn't fit so you gave it to her.
So you didn't ask about a safe for your precious metals, or which fancy camera would be best?
Boy you collect bikes like I collect camera lenses.
I found a 70-210 f2.8 in one of my camera bags. Forgot I had it.

Agreed - that 24 hours where I didn't own a motorcycle was pretty miserable.
Siu, $3k isn't really much for a bike these days, especially a titanium one. Those happen to be the exact words I'm going to tell the lady that's coming to look at our tandem this weekend.
