I discovered, much to my dismay, that Star Choice will not be offering 2008 Tour de France coverage this July. They do not offer the Versus Channel.

Cycling TV apparently will not cover the Tour either.

What's a keen cycling fan to do. Will we have withdrawal symptoms without Phil Leggitt, Paul Sherwin and Bob Roll.

Anybody know how a Canadian can get the Tour? Seriously.

How about a write-in campaign to Star Choice (or CRTC)?

It'll probably still be on OLN like it has been the last 5-6 years.

OLN?

It's free here with basic cable...I think by mistake.

EEEK ... Star Choice!?!?!?
I have Expressvu right now and watched everything on OLN last year.
Sometimes, local computer shops have promos where you can get free cable for a spell ... it's worth a shot checking that out (unless you're in an area without cable?).
I will send you a PM with the name of a shop in Niagara Falls that had a promo late last year. You can call and see if they're still offering it.

OLN is available on StarChoice but not Versus. The tour was on Versus last year...not sure if that is OLN reincarnated or something completely different.

OLN turn into Versus after the 06 tour I believe.

Burningman

Ya it turned to Versus in the States but is still OLN up here in Canada....

It has more outdoors stuff, not so much sports because it's owned by CTV which has TSN as a sports station

But OLN Canada has the Tour

yes it should be available on OLN (Rogers cable ch-58) in Toronto this July.

You can also watch the blow by blow via internet on LeTour
http://www.letour.fr/indexus.html

LeTour is excellent as it will give you all the time intervals and cyclist stats

I have both the net and OLN going at the same time. Sometimes im also on the trainer too

If you have fast internet this is what i did last year....

Dutch Orange TV carries the tour for free on internet.
BBC has a live free sound transmission...

so there you go.... it worked for me ....

The key move is to watch it on Rogers or Shaw with a DVR. FFWD the endless bowflex adds is priceless when you come home from work to watch the day's stage.

66aldo

Dude ... you don't think Michael Polenko has a genuine Bowflex bod??????? lol

Yeah I have to $$$-up basically for Tier III cable to get OLN; I'm not getting up at 5AM to watch the stage on Dutch TV online or whatever...Plus I love taping the stages. The bowflex ads are unendurable. Fast forward is the only option.

Besides, no one in Canada gives a damn, especially this year without the defending champion on the start line, so there's no chance of spoilers -- no dangers in recording the stages.

This year's Tour though... Hmmm...Cadel Evans the cyclingbot versus... Valverde? Still, it's the Tour, it's the race, the spectacle. Still, we've already seen the best stage race of the year in the Giro; the Tour will fall well short in comparison.

But OLN Canada has the Tour

OLN's TDF homepage (http://www.tsn.ca/oln/tour_de_france/feature.asp?fid=11091) says their broadcast schedule is forthcoming. DVR definitely makes for a better viewing experience.

Cyclingfans.com should have links to those and whatever other live streams there are. They've done that for all the important races so far this season. I was able to watch the classics, Giro and the Tour de Suisse for free though them. :-)

Is anyone watching on Canadian TV? Bell Expressvue looks to have nothing.

Cipo

Channel 411 is OLN.

Try http://www.justin.tv/giac2007 during race time.

It streams the Euro Sport coverage of the tour. It's how I've followed the tour while at work.
