My Peugeot U08 Ebay purchase. This is as picked up condition - I didn't even clean her yet! I'm torn between cherry picking the brakes, saddle, and perhaps fender/light/generator combination, then selling her on Craigslist as a commuter
OR
Saving her for the Classic Bike show this June in nearby Leesburg.

Jeepers. What a beauty. Tearing it down for parts would be sacrilege.

How much you want for her? :D

Welcome back! I hadn't really considered reselling except at the show [where she could strut her stuff] . Exchanging the brakes, saddle, and perhaps the lighting gear - then reselling would perhaps net $125.
The C&V crowd would bemoan that price (like the $300 Ebay Motobecane Mirage) but would have to admit she's tricked out and immaculate.
She's not our size. I was thinking a young lady at work, named France, might want a French bike :D but doing anything but giving a bike to a coworker is a mistake.

Oh? How would she fit a woman, say about 5'7"? :D

And here we go! :D
A cottered crankset. I've only read about how to work on those. And Mafac Racers. Sell it for a profit, if you can.

+1 My thoughts exactly.

No contest in my mind. Save her for the vintage show. There is something to be said for keeping such a bike in it's original condition. I mean this thing is a piece of art. Just look at all the lines in your photo of the fork crown. Have you ridden it yet? What's she like?

That is one beautiful Pug. The saddle, cottered crank and Mafac racer luxe breaks are keepers. That is to nice an original bike. Keer her and show her.

She's way too small for me. I do like the saddle, but I'm a sap for leather (Brooks or other). I still have to check the generator / lights but I bet they work.
I am selling a complete set of Mafac brakes off my previous Pug. I'll know by late Saturday if it was worth it.

I cleaned the Pug until she looked showroom new. I took pity on a Brit who attended the show and he went home a happy cyclist. An hour later a lady came by who would have bought at a higher price on sight - my type of customer :) Either way she was nice to work on and if you don't count labor a modest boost to my bike fund.
BTW - both headlight and taillight worked off the generator.

Just because something is old doesn't mean its ready for the scrap heap. I can't believe that you would even consider picking apart such a sweet bike. It looks much like the Peugeot I had as a youth. No. Leave it alone.
