I'm supposed to race Saturday.

It's a qualifier crit for a night race..

Work's been driving me nuts this week. See the "I'm meeting Brian May" thread to see one of 4 big things going on for me. The other three involve petty politics in my office, budget cuts in my office causing lay-offs, and my assistant is moving to Chile and is being extremely coy when his last day will be (and we can't post his position until we receive a letter of resignation), but he's suffering from extreme short-timers disease.

I haven't slept much this week.

I was supposed to go to Georgia this evening, but was called into an emergency faculty meeting tomorrow morning. I'm hoping to jet out of Gainesville by 9:30AM now, but there's a real possibility that I may not get to go until late in the day (if at all).

As I was packing up tonight, I just found myself thinking that if I wind up not racing and just sat around drinking beer while watching the races, maybe that'd be OK.

Wow.

this is supposed to be fun isn't it? Do what you feel like and don't worry sweat it.

It is ok. Add a good pizza, too.

Is it just me, or are there a lot of "I'm-getting-burned-out" sounding threads popping up lately?

Maybe it's time for those of us who have been training real hard for 4, 5, or 6 months straight to take a week off and re-charge our bodies and our minds. (Actually, in the past 3 weeks I've noticed that it has been getting progressively harder for me to get my heart rate up in training rides. So I just took 5 well-deserved days off the bike. Slept a lot. Ate well. And now I'm ready to hit it hard again.)

Might be a recipe for a few others out there who are feeling stressed.

Stick with it. Try to relax your mind as best as you can. Focus on what's really important in life. Thank God you have a job and the ability to race - if/when you can.

me too, i took three days off and came back flying.

you`re lucky that you`re able to race every week - there`s only FIVE real races around here all year (southern japan)!

i say ride it, you`ll get more out of it than a can or 6 of beer...

The training's been good. I did a 30 minute TT on Tuesday with an average/max HR of 188/199 (avg/max wattage of 327/699). It's just work that's killing me right now. :(

WR isn't burned out yet. That friggen monster is riding on a beautiful high to which I may never experience. Good for him, though. It's good to see people on the up and up and we should all be happy for him. The son-of-a .... I forgot where I was going with this.

Stop trying to fool your competition into laziness for your own racing glory! :D

When drinking a beer sounds better than racing (and most times it does), sit it out, have that beer and relax.

I say go race. Once you leave the start line you will forget all about budget cutbacks and all the other work related bothers.

the quickest way to burnout is to keep on racing when you don't want to.

Just be careful, you don't want to regret not going. At the same time, time off is good.

Where else besides Athens can you go and race (amateur, in the south) and have the course lined 3-4 deep with drunk people screaming at ya (in a good way)?

I'll be there, just hoping that the tales of crashes are exaggerated.
