Hello,

I would like to get suggestions for a LBS near Simi Valley (although I am willing to travel). I am looking for a new entry level road bike. I have been to SV Cyclery but all they showed me was 2000-3000$ bikes, not entry level. I tried Performance Bike in Ventura, I tried the Scattante r660 but it didn't fit quite right and I've heard a lot of differing opinions here on the bike and the chain of stores. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Chris

I highly recommend Simi Cycling Center (http://www.simicyclingcenter.com/). It's owned by a world champion masters racer (Butch Stinton) who has a heart of gold and I'm quite confident that his more seasoned employees will listen to your needs and not try to funnel you into a high zoot racing bike.

Chris, what size are you? I have a nice midlevel bike (Ultegra) that is available for an entry-level price. If you're 5' 10" to 6' 4" it may work for you, depending on your dimensions. I'm in Simi also. PM me if interested.

Take a look at All Pro Bikes, on Tapo in Simi. Gena, one of the owners, is very nice and knowledgable. You may also want to check out Westlake Cyclery, in Westlake. They have a large selection of bikes throughout the price range.
Just a note to Urbanknight, Butch Stinton sold his bike shop and moved to Colorado ( maybe? )... But the new owner is the guy who was the head mechanic for as long as I can remember.

Thanks everyone. I checked all the stores listed and purchased a bike from Wheel World in Woodland Hills. They had a good selection and were very helpful.

Is Dave Knudsen still there? He's the best wheelbuilder EVER.

A bit of a drive, but a good shop. I used to work there, although the manager (Kyle, the owner's son) was a little skewed. He's matured a lot since then and I believe is now running both stores.

So what did you get?

I broke my ring finger today so I'll try to take pictures tomorrow. I ended up getting a 07 Giant TCR AO with full Ultegra.

There is a Dave there not sure of his last name. He is however really helpful as is Gina whenever I go in. It has become my favorite bike shop since my first vist there about 6 months ago.

Dave was the owner of Pedalers West in San Fernando. He's tall, and a triathalete, and has a scar below his eye from a bad mtb crash years ago.

I am sure it is the same Dave then; he is about my height 6’ 2” and has the scar from a mtb crash.

Cool! Good to know he is still in the bike biz. If you ever need some hand built wheels, he is the guy.

Out of all the local bike shops in the Conejo Valley, I like Agoura Cycling Center the best. Shawn (or Sean), their lead mechanic is awesome. He has been extremely helpful with various things I've need for my road bike...even if you didn't buy the bike there, it's the place to go.

That would be James, right? And a big +1 to that shop. They were my local shop when I first got into road biking 18 years ago and are still one of my favorite shops. I try to make an excuse to stop by whenever I visit my parents out there.

No... James works part time now at Agoura's second shop, Boulevard Cycles in Sherman Oaks on Ventura Blvd. now.

James is a great mechanic! I am sorry he is not locally at Agoura anymore.
