I've thought about carrying a sling shot for the local dogs whom their owners refuse to keep them out of the road chasing people. :p

Sounds like some terrible thing my older brother would have done to me in the olden days.
Pciked one up over the summer. It was used, but in excellent condition. Got it as a frame, fork, wheelset, and seatpost, I added the rest. Mine is the older non-folding version with 650c wheels. I know they now are all folders and you now have the option of going with 700c's.
The ride is very nice. Very compliant over irregularities and super quick. You can actually adjust the cable tension and fine tune the ride a bit.
I have just converted mine over to a fixed gear, as the dropouts give about an inch of adjustment. Very helpful if you want to run fixed in the fall/winter and then put the rest back on the rest of the year. Get a second rear wheel and the switch can be done in a couple of hours.
Hope this helps.

dave, thanks for the input...what do you think this is worth?http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3639681612&category=22681&rd=1
It looks like an interesting ride and since it can fold, I can travel with it.
That one is actually not a folder. I've asked the people at Slingshot about breaking the non-folders (like mine) down by simple removing two of the bolts from the toptube junction and they said that you shouldn't do it. I've still think its possible since all you would have to do is align to the pre-drilled holes, but I have not tried.
Those frames go for about what you are seeing. I've seen a couple sell in the past month or so for less than what is current on that frame. It is probably getting more due to the history. I would say you are going to be able to grab one for ~$2-250.

I have had several Slingshot Mtn bikes...they are awesome..fast..responsive and very cool. I have just ordered thier new road frame..the factory is located just a few miles from my home. I got a tour of the factory. Met with Marty and Scot. Both of these guys spent much time with me explaining the logic behind thier road frame..its awesome and mine is gonna be cool..
