I know we all don't want to talk about this topic, but for informational purposes I was wondering something from anyone who has had this happen. For the record I was never hit on my bike but I was hit while running once.

So for those that have had their bike damaged/destroyed by a car, what happened when it came to insurance (aside from medical expenses). Did your Trek that cost $1000 4 years ago get replaced with a new equivalent model or did they cut you a check for $300 since it was a 4 year old bike?

In my case, the vehicle drivers insurance paid full cash replacement value minus 10% for depreciation. My bike was 8 months old when the accident occurred.

What did you have to show them for proof, Pics, Receipts.....?

Most LBS keep records of when a bike was purchaced and what the purchace price was.

I was paid full price quoted by my LBS without any depreciation for incident one.
For incident two I was paid full price quoted by my LBS + sales tax. The bike was 3 months old.
I can't speak towards medical due to the fact that I am still recovering.
