Hello all...

I'm basically an amateur biker, who bikes with my dad's 600 dollar mountain bike. I first started biking as a means to keep my stamina when i got shin splints from jogging too much. Eitherway, i wanted to ask you guys how you got in to biking, how i should get in to biking (thinking about touring bikes) and if anyone knows of any organizations in and around the miami area.

Thanks

Mount bike. Ride. Now you're into biking.

For local cycling orgs, try a google web search: Miami + Bicycles + Advocacy (or touring, or whatever). No doubt someone local in Florida that's on this list can give you more info, maybe you should restart this thread with a more specific title, and the local cyclists will be more likely to read your post and respond with specifics.

Hi,
cycling is a great sport. Were you thinking of loaded touring (tents, sleeping bags, stove) or light touring (motels, restaurants) or just long rides?
Anyway, you need to go try some bikes. The most important thing is a good fit. Some bike shops are a lot better than others at dialing in a good riding position. It makes a big difference. I describe it as the Ahhhhh moment when you find it.

Tiger69z,
I had that same question till i bought my bike. When i bought mine i told myself not to let the money go to waste. It was the BEST investment I have ever made. Once you buy a bike and start riding you will start seeing bikers all over, they are friendly people so you can ride up and ask about local events, clubs and other stuff. Also a good start is a bike shop, they are the first place to start.

Good luck
Ross

You are cycling. Your bike will teach you everything you need to know.

As to local cycling clubs, I would think that you can find them easily by a web search. Most bike clubs have a web site now. Another thing you can do is check out the local cycle shops. They usually know about the local cycling clubs and who to contact.

For a bike, I dunno about a touring bike. If you are just thinking of riding on roads and not doing self contained touring, I would think that you would be better served with a road bike with "relaxed" geometry.

Btw,
there is a book called Effective Cycling which a lot of us found very helpful. You can get it from your library. If they don't have it, they can get it for you with an interlibrary loan.
