My cycling club is hosting its first event next week! We are going to have a silly bike parade around the campus at noon, to kick off the bike commuting contest and raise bike awareness in a fun way. I've been having a hard time choosing which bike to ride in it! I have to do permission and publicity first thing next week, so wish me luck!

Where? Come on, give details!
East Hill
Oh, that. Yeah. It's going to be at South Puget Sound C.C., we're going to do a follow-the-leader (me) around campus and I've encouraged costumes, decorations, and noisemakers, so we'll see what shows up. And yes, I'll get photos!

What day is it exactly? Really May 1st?
East Hill
Really May 1st. Thursdays from 12-1 pm is an open time when no classes are scheduled, so that students can hold club meetings and events. May 1 happens to fall on a Thursday this year. It's also the first day of the IT Bike Commuter Contest, and one of the local neighborhood associations is hosting an event at the bike path shortcut which goes thru their neighborhood, so it all ties together.

Well, I might just show up for that! At least, don't be surprised if you see me :D .

It would take more than you showing up at anything bike-related in the South Sound to surprise me :D BTW, we will start from the bike lockers near the metered parking spaces, not that you heard it from me.

Thanks...I may sneak in for a visit!

ironically, i've got to work on may day.
I get out of class at 11:50, but that's it for the day, class-wise.

Darn it, I've just discovered I have to have a telephone conference with two other people at noon, in Kent :( . It'll last at least an hour.
And I was so hoping to meet you.
Perhaps the May Day Metric?

cell phone it in!!
+1 on that-I have a plug-in earpiece and speaker you can borrow. Although the horns and bells from our bikes might be a bit distracting.

It's actually going to be three cell phones, but it's with a doctor, so I need to be there for a follow up in person :( .

I would if I could, but I have to work that day (restaurant!) until 3:30 or so. We'll meet soon enough, I'm sure. Maybe you'll come down to Oly for the vintage bike parade this summer?

When's that going to be? I could probably arrange that if that's not the time period when I'm in Hawaii...

congrats mstrpete! You're doing a great job. Nice timing, for sure; I think this was meant-to-be.
Did you invite the Evergreeners? (just a thought).
I work in Seattle that day, can't make it either. Hope there are lots of riders!
Let us know how it goes. Don't forget to post pics for East Hill.
I pity the fool

who forgets pics.
Easthill, the vintage bike parade is mid-summer; I'll update when I find out.
FlowerBlossom, as much as I love those 'Greeners, this is for SPSCC, and a fun way to raise the visibility of bikes and bicycling on this campus. Evergreen already has a viable bike culture; SPSCC doesn't yet, and that's what I'm trying to help develop. I do get the sense that I'm in the right place, at the right time, with the right message, and I want to see what this grows into here without being (forgive me) hijacked by outsiders with possibly a different agenda.
I am going to bring my camera, and one of the club members (whose bike needs brakes) is going to take pictures. The campus newspaper is covering the event as well.
