Southern California - San Gabriel River Trail

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hi,
I'm gonna ride the San Gabriel River Trail this afternoon starting in Duarte and riding south. Would someone tell me if it's entirely paved or are there gravel portions?

It is paved, nice trail.. Make sure to keep your eyes open in some of the longer tunnels, they can be a little dark..

Both.. Pico Rivera area can be a little rough, but if you are riding solo keep your eyes open in the tunnels.
Cool, I'm with a couple friends today so I think we'll be good, but thanks for the heads-up.

You guys should have ridden with us today. Good turnout. Great ride! We rode from Duarte to Seal Beach and back, 72 miles.
I realize the thread title makes no mention of the San Gabriel River Trail....that's probably why you didn't see THIS THREAD (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=402851)
Thanks for the invite but I doubt we could've kept up with you and for that long. :) We rode just 15 miles before calling it quits--the heat was stifling.

How did you like the trail otherwise? I'm partial to it myself, but then I live very close by...
How did you like the trail otherwise? I'm partial to it myself, but then I live very close by... It's a very, very convenient ride--no stops and a smooth ride. Glad I finally tried it out and I look forward to getting back out there again! Oh, I do wish the scenery was a little better but that's just a minor thing.

Were you the guy wearing tennis shoes?
Were you the guy wearing tennis shoes? No, we were all clipped in. I was on my Dahon folder, my bro-in-law on his Trek 5000 road bike (he's actually good :) ), and our friend on his Specialized mtn bike.

I don't see a lot of folders on the trail, so when I do, I usually remember it.

To avoid collisions call out "bike in" and "bike out" entering and exiting those tunnels.
