Does anyone know if the registration in the 4's filled up for barrio logan? I'm going to be going down to see if I can get in day of no matter what, but would love to know if it didn't get filled.

Dude, get out of here! Give us a chance to win something:mad:

Kidding.

I seem to remember it being somewhat open when I registered.

Somehow a skateboard ended up under my front wheel on PCH this morning. My entire left ass is one big raspberry, and there's a two inch circle missing from the palm of my hand (wasn't wearing gloves). I'm covered up in Tegaderm and still hopefull for tomorrow :(

OUCH. Glad you're ok, man. Anyone take responsibility for the errant skateboard? Hope you can still make it down and give me some climbing lessons tomorrow.

Meh, I yelled at some kids, but I'm pretty sure it was just an "accident" on everyone's part, still sucks though. The part that's freaking me out, is I slid accross a lane of PCH, thank god there weren't any cars, but it's the "what if" that's getting under my skin. I just took the training wheels off my 4 year olds bike and chased him around for an hour, without any problems. I'm pretty sure I'll be fine tomorrow, the adrenaline and pain of racing will mask out my burning ass cheek :p

Hey it looks like I'm the first one to report back about this race.

I raced with the 5's in the B group, and was lucky enough to have a couple good friends racing as well. I wasn't exactly sure what happened with an escape group early on (please pipe up if you know more), but I think 3-4 guys went fairly early and stayed away.

We were in the process of trying to reel them back in when on the second lap something happened behind me a few bikes and over on the shoulder, and caused a pile-up that caused my friend Mark and two other guys to crash. That was really too bad because Mark is quite possibly the strongest of the three of us and would have finished well.

Thankfully he had a cell phone and called his wife who was at the start/finish line to let her know that he was ok and she confirmed that he was o.k. to us when we got to the start of the third lap.

The headwind was picking up and was pretty nasty on the third descent and flat section, and by then we were feeling a bit worked over. I hung on to that first chase group until about 1/3 of the way up the last climb when they (and my other friend Paul) pulled away. I was able to pull only one of those guys back in before the finish and came in right behind Paul for a 12th place finish.

It's a great road course, with a small bit of everything. The gaps on the bridge didn't look too bad, but I hopped them each lap as a precaution. Also I was pleased to see that the turn onto W Lilac WAS swept and dry. Being my first RR, I was fairly timid and tried hard to pace myself for a decent finish, but the pace was close enough to my limits that I wasn't left with much at all on the last climb.

Lots of fun, and the only way it could have been better was if we'd been able to keep working with Mark throughout the race, and finish with him. I'll most likely be signing up and racing this one next year, possibly with better preparation and depending on what I decide to do this season, perhaps in the 4's.

If you were there, I'd love to hear your report as well.

this is my first road race as well and I was in the cat 5a group. well on the first lap everyone was pretty much together till the climb up to the start finish and I tried to keep up but about halfway up I had to back down since I knew there was 2 more laps to go. So me and another guy started working together on the decent down 395 and picked up 4 guys who got dropped by the lead group. So we started working together doing short pulls to try to catch up but I think the lead group had 9 people with them so they were at more of an advantage.

right before the horse training track on the second lap one of the riders in our group some how lost it and went crashing into that little swamp at the side of the road thankfully he was ok. That dropped our group to 5 riders on the second lap and we lost another one on the climb to the start/finish. By the time we got to camino del rey we were down to 3 riders but hooked up with some cat 4 riders and we worked together to the bottom of west lilac since the wind was really blowing this time. When we started climbing to the finish on the last lap I just took off and was able to finish ahead of everyone else. I just wish we had a bigger group to work together to catch the lead group of riders but it seemed to me that the cat 5a group was really spread out thin.

Overall it was a great race but it did show me I did need to work on my climbing.

Wes got beat??? It didn't start hurting to the point that I couldn't move it till the next morning, which is what the friend who I was staying with who was an EMT said would happen. It could be as little as a hairline fracture or as bad as a full break, no way to say now. I'm expecting a race report chuckles, no excuses. I gotta live vicariously through someone

who won - the guy from Big Bear (Peter)?

Alright, man...
The pack stayed together until the second time up the climb when a big gap formed just after start/finish. And since I was in probably the back 1/3, I was too far back to try and do anything. A bunch of guys managed to make it across before the descent, but when I tried to pick it up a little it just wasn't happening. So now i'm in a group of about 15 or so going over the top, and just like always, a bunch of guys get dropped on the descent because of the headwind. My group is down to 8 now, and a nice, rotation starts across the bottom and part way up the climb again. I took too long of a pull at one point and ended-up losing that pack as well. But when I looked down the hill behind me, I saw a lot of guys coming up and basically soft-pedalled down the descent so i'd have some help along the bottom. This group was pretty big - maybe 20 - so I managed to get a good rest, went with 5 when the pace picked up on the climb, and ended-up crossing the line in - get this - 57th!

I'm such a badass.

Wish I could tell you about the epic battle up front, but i wasn't even close enough to be a spectator. Heck, I wish I could go back a month to when I was feeling stronger and finishing well just to see if I'd be doing any better at this road racing crap. Two weeks of no racing is gonna do me some good, I think.

I felt really good that whole last lap. Nobody wanted to work, but I didn't feel the least bit tired when I would pull and I kept making gaps. When we were on the climb, the one guy attacked, or rather just kinda rode off the front. The guy at the front said "I'm not going to chase him". I was on his wheel to the right and someone else was to my left. I was pinned to the gutter and I sure I could have gotten around him, but I said "I'll chase" and he moved over and let me though. I started to accelerate and then remembered that I didn't want to pull the pack with me, so I jumped and bridged up to him. I came up on him and said "just me". He looked at me and I said if we work together we can hold them off. I went in front and after a few moments he was off my wheel. I didn't want to blow up so after I got a good gap I dialed back and held a near-TT effort. I was passing a lot of women as I went and when I would look back it was hard to tell if it was the women or you guys. As I went through the last few corners I could see and feel someone near and I thought it was one of you so I drilled it to the line. That was fun. Sucks that I had dropped my chain, I'm confident I would have been able to stay with the main pack for a while, if not the whole race.

It was still cool to hang out for a few hours, and watching the Pros fly up that road made me realize how slow I am on that road HAHA:p

Actually you did get a picture of me in the Pro/1-2 field. I was 15th today. It was a tough race. I missed the break that went on the first lap, but I don't really think I would have made it up the climb with those guys 7 times so I wasn't too sad. Another small group went about 1/2 way into the race and then I was able to go with the guys that attacked the "field" on the last lap. I think I yelled at George and Brandy who were watching from the sidelines.

Unfortunately, I didn't see any BF folks this morning. :(

There was at least one BF member, OTB in your race.

Yikes. You two had as long a day as I did. I was there until 6:30 driving the course and picking up cones and signage.

We left around 5, right after the P/1/2 race finished. I had two teammates (including OTB) that I was feeding. When we left, he had just started on his last lap, determined to finish. He asked the officials if he could stop since he finished the lead lap (he had just been passed by the leaders), but they said he had to to the whole distance. He had done the 45 race that morning (and got second), so that was his 11th lap of the course!

George was out riding and I don't know where Brandy was. That may have been us. What team are you on?
